I'm 30 and I remember, when I was a little child, my father and his second wife holding me down and shoving spoonfuls of dish soap down my throat when they thought I had lied to them... and it was very traumatic, definitely not safe, and really freaking abusive behavior... so, I appreciate the absurd trauma therapy here

I too am 30 and when I was a little rascal kid my dad threatened to wash my mouth out with soap if I didn't behave. I remember thinking why soap? Is that bad??? So I went into their bathroom grabbed the hand soap by the sink and squirted a large amount into my mouth. Swished it around a bit and came to the conclusion that it didn't hurt but it did taste bad so I spit it out and went to go tell my dad that his threat held no power over me haha. I was a weird kid.

I feel your pain, Conan 😣 it’s a cruel and unusual punishment... I grew up in the 80s and def had my mouth washed out w/ soap.. the incident that sticks out in my mind vividly was when I was 4yo and said “what the hell was that” bc the volume on my little Playskool tape deck blasted really loud on accident.. (I heard someone say it on tv and didn’t realize it was considered a “bad word”... ) so I got spanked and then my mom put liquid orange dial soap all over a rough, old mauve colored washcloth and scrubbed it all over around and in my mouth while I was confused, crying and coughing and it got in my eyes which really stung 😭 🧼 .. got sent to bed w/o dinner that day too... haven’t thought abt that in a long time but all just came back to me.. 😑 thanks for the free therapy 🕊

Just hilarious. Cracking good. The dynamic between you three is just neat to watch as well, aside from the hilarity. And Sona does bring so much to the table! I may intentionally misspell her name attempting humor, but Sona has been consistently hilarious and both a foil and an inflictor of some seriously funny chain yanking of the big guy. I swear the HR interview/therapy session was one of the funniest things EVAH. She lands some blows in front of the parental authority figure and Conan outs her as a possible stoner. It was like watching or personally enduring weird family or couples counseling. Through lines a plenty. We had an immigrant Grandmother who we all practically lived with and somehow the mouth soap punishment didn't appear. Some vague threat regarding soap in mouth did appear once from some loving fear monger, but never the deed. Matt is such a calm centering and funny presence and I get a kick out of watching him work the group chemistry for the laughs, but also for the peace and good vibes between the members of the work fam. It's really a big relief to watch you folks sometimes. Life is a bit stressful for me these days and watching you good people really brings me to a better place in my head and heart. Sorry for the gushing but it's Thanksgiving Day so why not give some thanks! I started college in 1993 and watched the very first Conan show on a very tiny tv that belonged to my roommate (who hated me! lol) and then eventually would watch with friends in the tv lounge of the dorm. I did watch the Simpsons and SNL but didn't know who Conan was until seeing promotions for the show and watching that first one. At the time, I was a huge fan of Carson, Letterman, and Arsenio Hall but this was my kind of crazy, ridiculous humor and I have been following Conan's career ever since. My best friend and I loved the show so much that we named our first apartment pets- two cute little hamsters- after Conan and Andy. Hers was named Conan since he was a little more ginger coated and mine was Andy. I know it has been said a thousand times by many fans but I am so glad that Conan and crew are still around entertaining us in new ways. I now listen to the podcast and was very happy to hear about the Sirius XM channel---which is now my first saved channel in my car. To Team Coco: Thank you (Conan, Andy, Bley, Sona, Matt, and the rest of the associated crew) for entertaining us for all these years. I only wish the younger Conan had known how much people loved what he was doing on those tough days. I love that on my bad days, I can log on here or tune in on Sirius and crack up over what you guys and gals do best. Thank you!!!!
