Haha, the mayor of Conan town already replied on this: Hello from Hokuei Town, a.k.a. “Conan Town”, in Japan. I am Mayor Matsumoto. Conan O'Brien, in Japan we do not have a Key to the City. We have this! With this you can make all your demands come true. If you come, I will give you this! However... I have a few modest demands too! 1. FIRST: I want my face next to President Lincoln on Mount Rushmore. 2. SECOND: I want my own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 3. FINALLY: I want you to bring fifteen-thousand American Hamburgers with you when you come. (That’s one for each citizen of Conan Town.) Be here or be square.
@SaveThePurpleRhino
@SaveThePurpleRhino 6 жыл бұрын
The first and second demand is not that hard to fulfill. Nothing says the face must be gigantic or, same as the second, being an actual part of the mount/pavement. Now, the 3rd one is quite tricky. Does TBS have some leftover from their coke budget?

Actually Detective Conan came out on 1994, yes. But his prototype stories (Gosho Aoyama's Short Stories), came from 1980s, just with different names. Such as KAITO KID, came on 1987. Now Kaito Kid become a guest star in some of Conan's anime TV episodes or big films. But yeah, "Detective Conan" or Edogawa Conan name become the biggest franchise of Gosho Aoyama's work. || Detective Conan... or Edogawa Conan is like a God for manga & anime lovers, not just in Japan. It's pretty logical story cause Kudo Shinichi (17 years old) drank a prototype poison pill called APTX 4869 and he shrank into 7 years old body. He needs to use fake name to make Black Organisation thinks he's already dead. By the way, Gosho Aoyama made his name Conan because he loves SIR ARTHUR IGNATIUS CONAN DOYLE, Sherlock Holmes' writer who was born in 1800s. Edogawa came from EDOGAWA RANPO, which is the famous crime fiction story. Fun fact, Edogawa Ranpo is also a stage name of Hirai Taro. Edogawa Ranpo is Japanese spelling of EDGAR ALLAN POE. Detective Conan is really popular, also because it's like merging many popular culture of crime fiction such as Agatha Christie too. About the city, Gosho Aoyama comes from Totori prefecture and the government turned it to become touristic place. Even there's a museum called Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory. Detective Conan is on List of Best Selling Manga, number 4, behind One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_manga . A super fan of Conan here :D

BarrCode674 That’s a real shame, it was such a masterpiece in the 90s when I grew up in China. It advocates good values and moral that are accepted everywhere on earth. It teaches unbiased history, literature and natural sciences. It alway reminds me of the good old days where there was no politics, terrorism, pedophiles, fetish porn, just me and my elementary school sweetheart watching detective Conan on my grandpa’s big ass TV. By the way it is still ongoing 20 years after its debut in1996. I guess it became more like news than an animated show, people just couldn’t let it go.

i've been watching detective conan since 1997. before i even knew who conan obrien is. i live in south america so it's not just huge in japan. this anime has been going on for 21 years, and it's still nowhere close to letting the audience know about the organization that shrunk him back to 10 years old. (btw, he doesn't grow at all in the show, he's been 10 years old for 21 years!) edit: oh and he was named after sir arthur conan doyle. the author of sherlock holmes

i don't consider myself a weeb. i only watch like 3 old school shows from 20+ years ago. det. conan, golgo13, and lupin 3rd. all of them feature mature themes in a realistic-type setting (modern day guns, etc). i detest anything else that is anime. absolutely hate it. i'd go as far as say it's cancer and should be banned. especially anything that is set in a high school. kill it with fire.

I have seen I don't remember where that someone was asking about exactly how popular Conan is in Japan; it occurs to me today that Japan is a highly marketing-segement area, (I haven' t observed this extremely-highly market demassfication in other contries on earth) Therefore it is probably a bit hard to find out. Still, watching clips showing Conan walking on Harajuku, in my opinion that to Japanese they like Conan, for most Japanese - anything related ENGLISH is horrifying, they could just ran away for being too shy.

Some Japan TV program once doing tests about how people are trrrfied by English. They sent a western foreigner (spoke Japanese fluently without accents) on street in Tokyo to randomly ask people for directions in Japanese, (not English) Some people just escape......
