I got an army of kissing bugs once, and to make matters worse, only found out about it on New Year’s Eve. As you can imagine, a whole month of bright and warm Christmas lights cooked the little fellas up, making them drop dead quite literally. Felt a bit creeped out at first, but mostly guilty for taking their glorious green home and lives; for robbing them of a future (as silly as that may sound to some), all for the sake of a pagan tradition. Never went back to real trees ever since, and don’t regret it. I, however, do miss that unique Christmas fragrance ngl

I have memories of my dad yelling at us too about the Christmas tree. . .that's why I have a fake one. Didn't even put it out last year. Back in the Late Night years there was this sketch with Joe Goddard talking about his Christmas as a kid and I remember laughing my butt off so hard I waked my father up and he came down and started smacking me and my brother around. We were literally in the same environment he described (only my father was only pleasant when he was very drunk, and he was very very rarely drunk). . . Later it was on a rerun and he just so happened to see it and he started jumpping down our throats and threatened to hit us making us flinch and everything again. The surreality was making me hold in my laughter like that Biggus Dickus scene from Life of Brian only my father was screaming like a drill sergeant. I can laugh now, THAT was funny.

Not until I became a home owner, and wanted to do some landscaping, did I learn about root balls. People who lived in apartments all their lives, are less likely to know about that detail. However many Americans are generally uninformed, about many things. If one lives in the parts of the country, where the ground freezes. It would next to impossible to dig a hole in the ground. The smart thing to do is dig the hole in advance, during the warm months. After the hole is dug, the soil should be improved, by breaking up & removing any clay, adding nutrients, and better, fresh soil. If you have the resources, just pay professional landscapers, to perform this task.
