For those who deem conan to be just a vehicle for Arnold to glisten and show the guns off... This film is a philosophical genius... Robert e Howard knew his philosophy and amalgamated Eastern and western philosophical view's created a new world for the readers. Conan realises that the union of spirit is more powerful than the steel

About 2 years ago, my grandmother passed away and when we went to her memorial, they had a video of all these old photographs of the times when she was younger and they had this piano like music added on there. But as I was watching it, this beautiful music faded into my thoughts as I was watching. Even to this day when I go visit her at the cemetery where she's buried, I still hear this in my head. I miss my grandmother so much, it hurts me really bad. She meant the world to me. Whenever there was a problem, she was there. My brother and I spent a lot of times at her house when we were little. Her house was basically our second home because Mom and Dad had to work. They both had to work nights. Come April 29 2019 will be the 2nd anniversary of the day she was called home to Jesus and reunited with her husband who she lost 32 years ago. This music is dedicated to my grandmother. I miss you, Granny. I miss you so much 😭😭😭😭😭

Another iconic scene, Conan finally learning the riddle of steel. Thulsa Doom: "What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? Look at the strength of your body, the desire in your heart..." It's safe to say Conan already knew, but I think after coming back, after the tree of woe, I think it became a solid realization at that point. He stares at his hand, then uses it to whip his sword around. Perfect moment!
@joeshmoe53164 жыл бұрын
Conan was still searching for an answer. You can tell this when he sheaths the sword and looks at his hand. He is contemplating what Doom said. But later on when he is fighting at the mounds, Conan's strength is at a low between him and the man that uses his father's sword. Valeria as a valkyrie comes in and saves him fulfilling her promise when he is near death. Conan regains his strength taking down the man. With his father's sword breaking. Conan looks at the sword pondering all of it. Steel failed, his body failed as he was almost killed. What got him up to win fight? The spirit, it's what has been driving him in his quest for vengeance.

It's cheesy like other eighties sword and sorcery movies, but thanks to the better, somewhat mature script and direction, the emotional score and the clever use of Schwarzenegger physical presence (rather than making him speak) it's more than just a simple adventure movie. I just watched the two Conan movies and Red Sonja, and I think most people think of these films based on the latter ones. Just like the Rambo movies: everyone considers Rambo as a one man army, while First Blood is a completely different movie, the tale of a broken man. I found the first Conan movie much deeper than the usual genre movies of this era even though it has some cheesiness. But I found it charming considering all the positive things. I guess having Oliver Stone as a co-writer helped a lot. It's like this scene: it's cheesy, because a huge, muscly man is doing a weird kata with a big sword, and it's touching because the scenery, the music, his charisma, his concentration and his movements shows us that it's quite an important moment for his evolving character. Without words.
