That's Nadiuska. She was in a lot if Spanish movies in the 70s, mostly light comedies with lots of "tiddies", after Franco's dictatorship and its censorship ended. Child Conan is Jorge Sanz, a Spanish actor mostly popular in the 80s and 90s also in comedies. He was in Belle Epoque, a Spanish movie that won the Oscar for best foreign language movie.

You got to see Conan The Destroyer. That film is the most D&D film ever made. Wizard, fighter, seudo paladin, thief, bandit (Grace Jones), princess forms a party and goes on an adventure. Yeah, it's pretty much a D&D campaign and a personal favorite of mine.

Conan the destroyer is OK, but it can’t compare to the first Conan. Where is Subuti? Why isn’t he still with Arnold? The new thief character, I can’t even remember his name, is annoying, useless, and dumb. He isn’t needed or wanted. And no Conan Movie should be rated PG, but the Destroyer is, which also ruins the movie. We went from the Barbarian, a film for adults, that has mature concepts. People still discuss the meaning of the riddle of steal. To the Destroyer which feels like a kids film, oh look, the hero gang goes out, kills scary monsters and saves the day. Just a cookie cutter action adventure movie. There are a few good things about the movie, we still have Mako as The wizard Akiro. Grace Jones as Zula, and Wilt Chamberlin as Bombaata are both great characters. But they just can’t make up for all the short comings of the movie.

I was raised on three movies: this, Aliens, and Hot Shots 2. This is an absolute goddamn classic, Basil Poledouris doesn't get nearly the appreciation he should after this soundtrack, and it's one of Arnold's best ever movies specifically because he doesn't need to talk much in it. He's a shockingly good *silent* actor.

@@jayeisenhardt1337 Yeah, the score in Conan is unmatched. I had just started watching it one time when my TV went out. It was a problem that could easily be fixed if you knew what you were doing. I had a friend of mine come help me. We got the TV playing again and it picked up where it left off on the DVD. Like I said I had just started watching it and Conans village was being attacked and the orchestra was playing that powerful score. After a little less than 2 seconds my friend said "Oh shit, I love that movie". I was like, "It hasn't been playing for much more than a second. How'd you know it was Conan?" He said "Man, I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie." Oh yeah, he was looking at the back of the TV when it started playing the movie.

It really is a great opening for the movie, and I can't imagine it being better delivered. But I like Robert E. The Stunt man broke his leg from the fall in the snake tower, one can see his leg hit the side of it as he falls! Those are real arrows being shot into the big snake over Arnolds head in the shot! The producers cut most of Arnolds lines because they didn't think anyone would understand it. All of Gerry Lopez's lines were dubbed over. They made Arnold bite a real dead buzzard to save time, he gurgled alcohol between takes! John Milius said they called the soup Split Pea and Hand! Sandal accidentally cut one of the stunt guys finger off in the fight during the escape with the princess! poor Sven, he spends the early years of his acting career getting killed by his pal Arnold! In the extended scenes there is a conversation between Conan and Subotai before the battle and you see how Conan gets into the cult again and sneaks up on Thulsa Doom!

@@3Rayfire Conan is sUperrior in scope.The complexity of it also including avoiding use of more modern sounding instruments and having a theme sorta for most characters because unlike most scores where composer is given 3 to 5 months to create score, here music was largely supposed tell story as Conan would be a barbarian character and a man of few words, and composer had a whole year to compose the music, notified in advance.And part of the genius of the score is how primitive and primal it sounds at times, it is why it's so iconic

It's such a classic sword and sorcery movie. It keeps things simple and it works so damn well. Sure it's got that 80's production vibe but otherwise it's held up pretty well against the test of time. And the soundtrack.. It's the stuff of legends by Basil Poledouris. Perfect for those tabletop sessions if you need some epic music. :D

You know, I think the 80's production vibe works for it. Nowadays everything is so digitally framed, altered, and polished, that it feels very sterile. It's especially distracting when trying to create "period" scenery, which just ends up looking like modern people in cosplay. But in this movie, it really does feel like we're watching something out of the Bronze Age.

The temple burns cause its not 100% stone, there is other combustible (wood, cloths, flags, banners etc) The Conan stories takes place in an Bronze Age kinda era, so wood is still one of the primary components of any structures.

Whats nice about this movie, evne tho it is not a 100% adaptation, the plot and characters are from various Tomes/Chapters of different Conan's adventures. The Tower of the Elephant (Wich will serve as an inspiration for the Eye of the Serpent jewel Conan and the others steal( in the novel its called the Heart of the elephant) and the Tower they infiltrate) The Queen of the Black Coast (the Pirate Queen Belit and her relationship and story with Conan will be the inspiration for Valeria, her Ending when she comes back from the dead to help him is also taken from the book iirc) Are two that i can think off on the top of my head (been a decade since i last read conans books)

Oh interesting historical fact: many kinds of stone DO burn, once things heat up enough- the stone begins leeching mineral oils and other substances and can actually start burning quite aggressively. It takes a good amount of effort to get to that point but wood and other materials inside the structure burn readily and can quickly get past the point where the stone begins boiling off. Small stone enclosed rooms inside a temple structure like the Mountain of Power also accelerate this process if there is airflow available, basically becoming an oven.

FYI Justin Long was four years old when this movie came out. Gerry Lopez plays Subotai but his primary claim to fame was as the surfer who meditates on waves. He is from Hawaii like Jason Momoa and Don Ho. The historic Subotai began as Genghis Khan's doorman and ended as the Khan's most formidable General.

Fun Factoid: The acolyte who jumps from the cliff at her masters bidding is taken from historical accounts of a real man who had a secret temple in a mountain, who used hashish to mess with his followers heads. He was very powerful and much feared as he was well learned and wise and could manipulate many cities and regions with his own people secretly placed into the service of his enemies. These people were a part of a sect known as Hashishim and is where the word assassin comes from - Hashassin. If you troubled The Boss, they would slip secretly into your room and slit your throat as you slept. If you needed a warning, a knife was left on your pillow to wake up to. Since I'm a little late to the party on this, I doubt you'll see it, but in case you do, the "Do you want to live forever" line comes from a real person. It comes from two-time Medal of Honor recipient and US Marine, Daniel Daly, who said it to motivate his men when charging the German lines in World War I, at the Battle of Belleau Wood.

This movie is a lot of fun, and even a bit silly at times. The skeleton from which Conan gets his sword is supposedly a buried Altanean general (from a time "before the seas drank Atlantis"), so the sword is of a superior quality than contemporary swords from Conan's time. In the final fight near the end of the movie he even shatters the sword carried by one of the bad guys with those bangs - that sword happens to be the sword that bad guy stole from Conan's own father.

@@VeerleTakino Sci Fi version was terrible. While they did add more from the books, they also REMOVED just as much. Terrible. Children of Dune was MUCH better and with better music.

Unpopular opinion: You guys paid more attention to the comments rather than the movie. Sorry. I LOVE your channel, videos and Emily's comment but this one failed. Why did you even bother to watch it? Constantly distracted by the comments. Try watching it again and not having any distractions, I'm pretty sure you'll get more out of it. And you missed quite a bit actually. By the way, the "What is best in life" is actually a REAL quote from Genghis Khan but paraphrased. Anyway, end rant and keep up the good work. :-)

I’m just getting into Conan myself! I saw this for the first time about two weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. I never saw it when back in the 80s, my parents wouldn’t let me. By the time I was old enough, stuff like Conan didn’t interest me. I was into Star Trek which had two series on at the time and Star Wars which was just starting its resurgence. Now with the absolute garbage that is being put out by Disney Star Wars, I finally gave up on it and instead got into reading classics like Conan and the John Carter series. One thing that really cracked me up in the movie was the scene with the camel. I did see the second movie many times on HBO since it was PG and never understood why Conan tried to apologize to the camel. Now I get it!

@@simonbeaird7436 I got an audiobook version as well which collects all the stories from Weird Tales. I just started listening to it but it starts off with Kull the Conqueror, which I know they made that into a film but I heard it’s not so good.

This movie is D&D. Adaptation of Howards' character from his books. There are other movies that get that true feel of what a players want around the table. Conan teh Destroyer, The 13th Warrior, Beast Master, Robin Hood (most of them), The Dragon Slayer.

This is one of my favourite Arnold performances, obviously his english wasn't strong (especially now) so they kept the dialogue minimal and let others talk when necessary, but I always knew, what he said, what he felt, what he thought... it is a great emotional performance, if you have the physical appeal and charisma, show it, don't say it

A few years ago, I actually filmed a short film at the location where Arnie punched the camel! We also filmed in the same place as the tank chase from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Can´t for the life of me remember what they´re called, cos we just called it "the place where Arnie punched the camel". The film´s called "Red Dead Redemption: Seth´s Gold" and it´s here on YT!

The voice is that of actor MAKO who died in 2006 at the age of 72. You will see him in this film as The Wizard. Good question about the wig since Thulsa Doom (who lived and died long before Conan---he was the foe of King Kull---Kevin Sorbo played him in the movie) had a face like a skull. No flesh at all.
