this song means so much to me. i found conan about a year after this song was released and i was in a really dark place. i was at college, with no friends, in a city that i never wanted to move to. this song reminded me so much of my small hometown and the innocent high school experience i had with my friends. when conan left college after signing a record deal because of this song, it kind of became my anthem to getting out of the situation i was in. one year of listening to this song on repeat later, i moved to nyc to live a lifelong dream of mine. a week after moving, i met conan at his nyc show and had him write out 'idle town' for me. about a month ago, i got his handwriting tattoed on my arm and i will forever live with his words on me and in my heart. i think that in another life, conan and i may have known each other. when watching his videos and hearing his songs, i have a feeling of being homesick for a person i don't even know. if the only way we cross paths in this lifetime is through his music, i'm glad i at least made it here.

ok rant but i wanna say something my mom wanted me to be popular so she kept putting me in situations with the popular kids (but i understand she just wanted me to be safe and they weren’t terrible) but i was popular and it was shitty and i mean SHITTY as fun as it was the guys were quite gross, i wasn’t ever really connected to anyone closely and socializing with people you wont ever talk to ever again is terrible over all, so if anyone is wanting to be popular, just know that its not very fun, and i love just having 2-3 friends!

this is honestly a great graduation song and a wonderful tribute. makes me SO emotional. as someone who comes from a small town in kentucky (near cincinnati, ohio) where everybody knows everybody and we all have our inside jokes and ways we celebrate each other, i can really appreciate this song. i think it also accurately reflects graduating and moving on in life, which i know will be really hard for me because i love my area, my school, and the memories with it. beyond relatable, and the lyrics are beautifully written together. overall the production and meaning of this song is fantastic. conan has real talent. he's going places.

I love this so so much. I am a senior in high school, and I am planning to move to my college town by the end of summer. I feel a strong relationship to this song because of its melancholy description of a hometown being a place everyone wants to leave but yet the location of so much memory. My interpretation may be far from its intended meaning, but this song will definitely be the anthem of this transitional period of my life as senior year ends and college and adult life begins.

I know this will be buried in the other comments but here's what the song is for me: This song makes me think of my experience at one school. I went to one school from Kindergarten to the start of grade seven. It was all I knew for school. My mental heath started to plummet in gr5 to the point the only reason I went to school was my best friend. Her nickname was Ali. She had all the same interests as me. We were meant to be friends. I never told anyone about me being sad as shit. As the end of grade 6 rolled in I started attending less and less. I was sad, but I acted fine. I didn't want to worry so I kept a fake smile on. Summer happened. I returned to the school. Hardly attending. After a full week of not attending I decided to move school. I showed up on a Thursday. Only to collect my stuff and to say goodbye to my small group of friends. I had to leave early. I cried a bit after I left the building. On a Wednesday I went to my new school. It was scary for me. I pushed through 2 weeks but then I had a slue of bad memories return. Making me almost not attend for months. I'm now attending most afternoons. It's shitty but at least I attend now. Update: I'm homeschooled now. The kids at that new school were shitty people so that didn't help a bit. I'm slowly working on the lessons I need to work on. Also getting a therapist for my anxiety and shit is helping a fuck ton. update 2: In may, I was so damn lonely. I could only text a few of my friends and they were quite busy so i couldn't talk much. after a bit, i decided to go back to my first school. When I came back my friends were so happy. And I was much happier with a friend group I knew and loved. I ended up becoming friends again with someone and we eventually started dating^^( Were both girls). And during the summer me and her hung out almost weekly. Once school started, me and my friends went right back to our shenanigans. We always go to my house during lunch and talk and play with my new kitten. My attendance isnt perfect at all but, i'm trying my best Update (31/03/2021) It’s been awhile and a lot has changed. I’ve realized I’m transmasc, broke off from that friend group after a lot of fights, broke it off with my ex. Started high school, made new friends, Ect. I definitely had a really bad low but, I’m working on it. High school during a pandemic has surely been a trip but I’m trying my best. Hopefully I’ll update during the summer. Update (20/02/2022) Lots has been happening since I last updated. I am 15 and a half. Ive learned alot about myself. and connected with buddies from early elementary. If anyone reads this, It does get better. It has to get worse before it gets better. I might update when I remember. Thanks guys for caring about me. Even though I'm a random person on the internet.

In my own life, there are a lot of things that could change for better, which they are not and maybe they never will. I'm in a position of constant depression myself and pressure never leaves.
