There's food and drink, singing and dancing, flowers all around, maybe a maypole, and possibly fires later on~ it's so lovely 🌻 If I had to choose one to call 'weird' (and not in a bad way) I'd go with the Spanish tradition El Salto del Colacho; it involves babies and the original sin.. Also the Dutch Sinterklaas, which to this day has people proudly wearing blackface and therefore is downright offensive 🙃 Btw, I know this is about "European" customs, but: Do yourself a favor and look up Mukonage, a Japanese one that is rather hilarious ^^ Aight, signing off ✌🏽

Midsommar is Midsummer, obv, and it celebrates the arrival of summer as well as being a celebration of fertility. So some of what you see in Aster's film is certainly rooted in real traditions.. except maybe for all the creepy cult parts y'know 😌 (i really liked the film tho). Although the Ättestupa was actually a thing.
