I'm seeing a few people get lost at the video's condensed pacing, so if you're still confused just keep in mind every album I talk about picks a central theme/concept and then frames a bunch of songs around them. The video is me spitfiring all the different albums under that definition that I really enjoy. And my apologies if it's hard to follow at times, I didn't want to bore you with the details but I also wanted to pick specific parts of each album to highlight.

I like the fast-paced and condensed style of your videos because they allow me to rewatch them and notice or understand new things or understand the piece as a whole differently, there isn't a channel I know that has the level of rewatch-ability as yours does.

One of my favourite concept albums is "Time" by Electric Light Orchestra, listening to it from start to finish is a great experience. Some of Jeff Lynne's best tunes imo with a fun narrative - a man from the 80's being transported to the year 2095. You mentioned it in passing, but absolutely worth a listen for anyone who hasn't yet.

My favorite “one long song” is Since I Left You by The Avalanches. It was originally planned to have a more cohesive narrative, but that was scrapped eventually. 0:56 this transition right here blew my mind. The way the hand gestures initially is displayed as a normal mannerism before being recontextualized as it holds the images being transitioned into, which gives a paprika esk feeling of reality wrapping, as the TV in the background is held by the hand in the foreground. It is posed as though you are presenting the explanation physically. I like the subtlety of it. I was not even aware my mind was blown before a good second when I actually held a thought of awe. You are an incredible artist and I wish to reach those heights, which you have shown me someday.

It's not every day I get to hear someone talk about Tally Hall, Blind Guardian and Jethro Tull in one video. Hell I consider it a treat to hear any one of them come up in conversation. Of Montreal's "concept album" was news to me too! Some personal reommendations for anyone who cares: Kamelot's Epica and The Black Halo are a retelling of Goethe's Faust Virgin Steele's House of Atreus is an adaptation of the Orestia Insomnium's Winter's Gate and Jethro Tull's Passion Play are more albums that are one long song The Art of Noise's the Seduction of Claude Debussy mixes impressionism, old school hip hop, and opera among others Gloryhammer's whole discography is a parody of Apex-style albums that tells its own story Sabaton's Carolus Rex tells the story of the Swedish Empire's rise and fall The Dolls of New Albion is a steampunk morality play about learning to love selflessly told over 4 generations Avantasia's work is just about all concept albums but I find the stories can be difficult to follow, same with Blind Guardian's original story concept albums. They do an excellent job of alluding to existing works but it feels like they continue to allude to a story that doesn't exist anywhere else Ayreon is a little better in that regard imo, The Human Equation and 01011001 being good examples If you really like prog and want lots of it, The Decameron: Ten Days in 100 Novellas is a massive 3-album collaboration with 100 tracks Honorable mentions to Symphony X's Paradise Lost, Angra's Temple of Shadows and Holy Land, and Devin Townsend's Ziltoid albums

This is the kind of video that makes me want to get into music. It’s so addictive to hear someone talk on end about some hint they’re clearly passionate about. Also, I can’t help but feel like the “cheesy script jar” bit is kind of a commentary on how it’s okay for songs and lyrics and things in general to be cheesy, based on how your character goes from denying your script is cheesy to being angry at it for being cheesy to purposefully going to admit the script is cheesy. Maybe I’m just looking too much into it.

@Artistic Cat A Concept Album is basically just an Album that tells a story across it, my go to example is American Idiot by Green Day cause the only songs that don't really fit the story are American Idiot and Wake me up when September Ends. Every thing else from that album however forms a cohesive story with a beginning (Jesus of Suburbia), a middle (Literally everything else), and an End (Letterbomb and Homecoming), there's even an epilogue with Whatsername

Surprised that Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral didn’t make an appearance. Themes of self-hatred, desperation, substance abuse, and similar subjects aren’t at all uncommon in music, but the way The Downward Spiral handles that narrative is unparalleled and makes for one of the most sobering musical experiences out there. It’s sequel, The Fragile, is also just as good, and serves as an arguably darker continuation of that narrative. Phenomenal albums, couldn’t recommend more.

I saw noodle (another awesome animator video-essayist) do this a couple months back in his last vid: the extreme vivid close-up with the live action lips and a green screen transition. Worthikids’s “Duloc” is sort of a musical following a mute protagonist trying to survive political upheaval in the background of Shrek 1, but every song doesn’t really focus on that specific crisis that they all encompass? Like, it is the plot of the album, but the myriad of different characters singing just do their own things when it happens. Wonderful album about accepting inevitability

I gotta chuck in a recommendation for The Protomen and their albums "The Protomen" and "Act II: The Father of Death". Both some of the best rock albums I've listened to, with some interesting themes and ideas relating to authoritarianism, industrialisation, and what it means to be a hero. Deltron 3030 is another good one, with all the songs being set in a dystopian scifi future.

Seconding this Protomen recommendation, although it should be noted that Act II is quite a bit different to Act I (and better than act 1, IMO), so if Act I doesn't seem to be your jam (it's not mine bc of the intentionally(?) muddied vocals), I'd still recommend trying out Act II as well.

This is by far, one of your most masterful videos yet. Your form of mixed media is entrancing and your script is witty and smart. Everything is so intricately crafted and I can imagine the countless times you've returned to this video to refine and make sure every frame of the video is worthwhile; so much so that it seemed to pass in seconds rather than 10mins. Great work and I'm glad to support your channel for all these years. My unsolicited criticism has already been addressed by you is the pacing. You're suffering from success in that everything is so well done that everything is battling for my attention. Its a real shame youtube doesn't allow you to share song clips because I think that would have been the best and easy way to give to give the view the time to digest every phrase and visual eye-candy. Maybe a patreon exclusive?

It's very likely it's at least in one view, a sailor and other lost souls trapped in a siren song and or a lotus flower situation. Or in another a single person, named Simon (one of the demo's for the mind electric mention it) living though his own thoughts in a fragmented mind. Or really the simplest one, 9/11. though this really can only apply so much to the entire album in my opinion. It itself is a fragment of ideas that converge around each other into a concept itself, and you're going to believe whatever hits you the strongest.

@@Foxlum my personal interpretation is twofold: 1. it’s the thoughts of one of the twin towers as it collapses on 9/11 2. it’s the second part of a trip to hawaii that began in the 90s this is based on what joe hawley has said about the album since its release, but the album is so abstract that loads of interpretations are feasible

Pretty much everything about this video fits fluidly together, all the jokes are well structured, and this kind of content caters to both old and new viewers alike. FUNKe isn't falling into the syndrome of content getting lazier, his quality only increases with every upload. And to top it all off, he's a Weezer fan.
