I don't know why, but there was so much emotion when he was tearing that page.

For people wondering why he ripped the paper apart in the end; This is not a detailed work. It is a rough sketch, something he is supposed to be able to create without effort at any time. It is supposed to be a sketch with just enough value to indicate its purpose, but no more. Had he put more effort into it, it would have become an art piece, but no longer a sketch with a purpose of hinting a design direction. In theory he should not lose anything by destroying this, because he knows he can effortlessly recreate it anytime he wants. The key is to put exactly the needed amount of effort and thought into the work - no more, no less.

+Daniel Kemnitz I agree. When you're a transportation designer you have sketched so many things that the rough ones are really worth nothing at all.

+Dane Hamilton Also, if you intend on doing a rough sketch and get too much into it and spend time on it, then it does not serve its purpose. It is difficult in the beginning to let go, but you also need to learn how to spend your time. at least when you do it as a profession/study :)

That's correct. And Calty is their design house in Southern California. When we go there to shoot, they have these very tall, moveable walls that they roll around to block of views from things they are working on (upcoming concepts, etc), and its really hard to not want to take a peek when you are on the way to the bathroom, but we never would and know we can't. But its tempting!

Mazda Furai has the great example of a futuristic yet gorgeous looking design language. Because they actually put effort to create a design philosophy on the car instead of drawing a bizzare car in few minutes and call it a day. Thats what most concept car designers doing nowadays.

They told me what the standards were that I had to meet and then let me do whatever I wanted so long as I worked within the law. Then once I was finished a through inspection was done by a certifier and VTNZ and then the car was made legal for on road use. A lot of paper work though!

If you haven't watched any of Sangwon Seok's videos you should, he is on youtube, carefully watch how he does things and just keep practicing
@yufengliu9054
@yufengliu9054 10 жыл бұрын
Jasper Hunter telling a beginner to watch sangwon is probably one of the worst thing you can do. He exaggerates the proportion and a perspective to an extreme extent, and without a decent understanding of automotive proportion and form, this would only confuse the beginner. It is much better to use his work as reference to learn a good line quality/show the surfaces in a sketch, as he does an incredible job with contrast and the shading of 1-2-3 sides. A good way to start is to simply sketch from existing car models, allowing a person to understand the form and proportion of different types of vehicles, and then moving on to designing.

Scott Robertson is an excellent designer and has a lot of great technique to show you. Look up his youtube page, it's a great place to start. He also has a book called how to draw that he recently released that will show you how perspective works in fantastic depth. Other than that, do your own research. Take reference pictures and try to draw using just your eye.

He ripped it up to say, "I can do one of these anytime I want to, no big deal." I do think he's been drawing that car for years. It just came too naturally to have designed it just then. Still, amazing artist! I've been trying to do what he did in minutes for years and have never come close. Guess that's why he gets the big bucks and I get to watch.

I have a question for you or anyone who may know. So it seems to me that you are largely a car designer, mainly focusing on the aesthetics of the car, correct? Well if so I was wondering if you know anything about how the cars run or know more what goes on under the hood? See I do a lot of designing and love designing cars however, I have not a clue how a car works. What I do know is the aerodynamics that go with the cars design though. Can I be a car designer without knowing the mechanics?

Front Mid-ship engine placement. Examples include the Corvette, Viper, GT-R35, LF-A Ferrari 599, FF, F12, Aston Martin Coupes, Marcos Mantis, and Honda S2000. It is no less effective than Rear mid-engine, costs less, more stable at high speeds, less costly, more practical, and more popular in terms of actual number of cars sold.
