I've done raycasting and bullet physics in 2d Java game development and in 3d minecraft pocket edition modding, but I am utterly blown away by the care and work you put into this! You seriously used so many alternative methods to work around what the command blocks lack- stunning. Fantastic job!

First time I watched this video (about 5 years ago when it was jusy released) I was still in 6th grade, back then I was really into command blocks and actually wasn't bad at using them and could build a lot of stuff myself and all, but this 1 video really blew my mind at this time and no matter what 6th grade me could never understand the math behind it, I kept coming across the video again and again across the years, it kept coming as if it was meant for me to understand it at some points, I don't remember when was the year it last appeared to me then stopped but I remember that for sure I have yet to be able to understand it.. Till yesterday when I found something very nostalgic to me that reminded me of this that made me wanna check thie video out again.. And finally after 5 years I could finally understand it which makes me feel very proud, gotta hand it to you man, your contraption right there, was a revolutionary point for the whole Minecraft command block community.. It was, and still is very impressive and inspirational, even nowdays this could be replaced with the simple /tp ^1 ^ ^ command, but that still doesn't make it any less impressive and doesn't mean that nowdays ideas and concepts regarding ray casting and such aren't related to your concept cause they surely still are, rewatching this video now gave me inspiration to try and recreate this myself in my single-player Minecraft world with new MC mechanics, not sure if I'd really be able to do it TBH but I'll give it a shot just for the sake of nostalgia and to have some fun, thanks for the memories man, hopefully you'll get back to uploading sometime soon, and if not I hope u have a nice life from now on

This system is amazing! It must have taken a lot of commitment, never mind maths knowledge and command-block genius, to create all of that! Well done!
@gamerguppy
@gamerguppy 9 жыл бұрын
+koder Thanks for your enthousiasm, it was actually meant to show-off the power of ray-casting and why it is critical for the continuation of innovation of Commandblock contraptions that we, commandblockers, get access to such a command in MC 1.9; e.g. /tp @e ~R which teleports the selected entity R blocks into the direction it is facing. It would be great for tools/sports/weapon contraptions, since it would eliminate 100s of CMBs I used to make this happen. Despite the success on my suggestion on Reddit, Mojang seems to have little interest in it sadly ;). But who knows, maybe MC 2.0...?
@koder
@koder 9 жыл бұрын
GamerGuppy I'd love to help you try and sell this idea to Mojang, because a /tp that teleported in polar (spherical) coordinates would be so useful!

man that is complex, but it's really thorough. Probably one person who really went through explaining how raycasts actually work. I hope they become easier with other commands later (such as, an extended searching tag that tells what a player is looking at even past the normal block placing range [that would make hitscan possible in an instant, and could help in calculating direction]). I probably wouldn't use this for a normal project anytime soon, but it's good to know someone has tried to break it down. Hopefully someone can make a command template eventually.

Hey you did really good making this!!!! (came here by watching logdotzip video). Feedback- I played your concept mini game, and it looked like assault rifle bullets were covering my entire screen (which is bad). Also some other gun accuracy that you could fix (sniper rifles especially). I think this is really great, and actually good enough to sell some codes of yours to other people who makes servers!! Verdict: You is epic, 9.5/10

By the way, if you'd like to hide the damage bar, you can simply make the carrot on a stick unbreakable when summoning it. I think the texture thing is one of my favorite 1.9 features! It let me do SO much on my server project! I've made kegs, weapons, doors, wall panels, all sorts of things!
@gamerguppy
@gamerguppy 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! But I actually did hide the damage bar before releasing the map, but not before shooting the video. Bit stupid of me :).
@chuckchuk14
@chuckchuk14 8 жыл бұрын
GamerGuppy Haha, nono, your vid's still awesome! Don't get me wrong! also, isn't there a way to make it so that the texture ONLY appears if the items is unbreakable? As to not have to sacrifice a set of tools? I heard that somewhere but I'm not sure... The only thing I'm really salty about is armor..... They didn't give the same damage value capability to armor...... Salty.

+Fabulous Killjoy (Yeah) Glad you like it. It's quite a frequently used concept though and MC uses the Math internally all the time since bows/snowballs/etc. all work based on this same principle. The only thing that makes this special is that I was enable to make it with the very limited tools we have available in MC.

Even though I don't like shooters, I'll probably try that out.^^ Btw, I was able to completely follow your mathematical explanation. This isn't my first time here and you're (still) doing well, guess I have to subscribe this time. ;D Greetings from Germany.^^ | In case you understand German _(as you're dutch),_ here's the whole text again: || Hay.^^ _Ich kam von _*_+Logdotzip._*_ Er bekam einen 'Like', aber du verdienst den 'Fave.'_ ;D Das war absolut großartig, super gemacht. Hey, ima download this map for myself. One thing that would be cool to add (Im no command block genius so please correct me if this is impossible) Is bullets that lower when you use the gun, for an example a scoreboard. And maybe if you find a "loot crate" it could add +50 bullets to the scoreboard. Apart from that, great video! you truly are a genius.

Love this concept, nice description of it as well. Would be fun to see if you could expand this to make a camera guided rocket launcher. (You shoot, your pos is saved, you enter GM 3, your orientation affect the proj vel, you gain view of proj). I even imagine that you have done that already. I released a grid/cell based tower defence map, and it would be awesome to have some turret (formation of armorstand heads) that could rotate so that it points to nearest target. Currently I'm limited to 4 directional turrets. I hope you can learn me something.

Great work but shouldn't some of these weapons like the Rocket Launcher damage blocks and or leave craters?

i know the Video was realy well explained in some parts but you just said it "obtains the Rotational value," can you please explain how it does currently what i see (i downloaded the world) is it finds the nearest aproximation (1-360,then 0.001-0.512) but how can it find a radius (e.g, Rotation is between 90 and 180) thenfind the 1-360 aprovimation then make it accurate by repeating the aproximation but for 3 digits of decimals? im probaly completely wrong but nice video and please explain.

There are no sounds in the resource pack and so the guns have no sounds. How do i fix this?
@gamerguppy
@gamerguppy 9 жыл бұрын
+LordOfFire There are sounds, (they are all vanilla MC sounds so no texturepack for that needed). It's just that MC 1.9 latest snapshots changed the names of the sounds. I explained it in the description of this vid too ;).

what would be the best way to move this over to a already existing map? I have attempted moving the whole structure over to another world using mc-edit but i cant get it working once im there. I put it on a test world and moved over the scoreboard data from the other but still nothing. I think that when i move it over with mc-edit it makes all the commands that start the machine inactive. I also attempting using the structure blocks and copy it in 4 pieces since the amount structure blocks can copy is small. I copied it on the same world and it worked in some ways but it was messed up.

I think if i use mc-edit and copy it in one go it would work but i have no idea how to start it back up correctly so it works. I was able to turn every repeating command block from needing redstone to always active. This restarted the command blocks but it still didnt work (i dont actually know if i got them all going again). Tried putting tags on myself as well.

I have seen that there was an earlier version of this. I am not sure if using that would help at all. Lastly i noticed the gun sounds werent working on the actual world. That could be just me
