First time I watched this video (about 5 years ago when it was jusy released) I was still in 6th grade, back then I was really into command blocks and actually wasn't bad at using them and could build a lot of stuff myself and all, but this 1 video really blew my mind at this time and no matter what 6th grade me could never understand the math behind it, I kept coming across the video again and again across the years, it kept coming as if it was meant for me to understand it at some points, I don't remember when was the year it last appeared to me then stopped but I remember that for sure I have yet to be able to understand it.. Till yesterday when I found something very nostalgic to me that reminded me of this that made me wanna check thie video out again.. And finally after 5 years I could finally understand it which makes me feel very proud, gotta hand it to you man, your contraption right there, was a revolutionary point for the whole Minecraft command block community.. It was, and still is very impressive and inspirational, even nowdays this could be replaced with the simple /tp ^1 ^ ^ command, but that still doesn't make it any less impressive and doesn't mean that nowdays ideas and concepts regarding ray casting and such aren't related to your concept cause they surely still are, rewatching this video now gave me inspiration to try and recreate this myself in my single-player Minecraft world with new MC mechanics, not sure if I'd really be able to do it TBH but I'll give it a shot just for the sake of nostalgia and to have some fun, thanks for the memories man, hopefully you'll get back to uploading sometime soon, and if not I hope u have a nice life from now on

This system is amazing! It must have taken a lot of commitment, never mind maths knowledge and command-block genius, to create all of that! Well done!
@gamerguppy9 жыл бұрын
+koder Thanks for your enthousiasm, it was actually meant to show-off the power of ray-casting and why it is critical for the continuation of innovation of Commandblock contraptions that we, commandblockers, get access to such a command in MC 1.9; e.g. /tp @e ~R which teleports the selected entity R blocks into the direction it is facing. It would be great for tools/sports/weapon contraptions, since it would eliminate 100s of CMBs I used to make this happen. Despite the success on my suggestion on Reddit, Mojang seems to have little interest in it sadly ;). But who knows, maybe MC 2.0...?
@koder9 жыл бұрын
GamerGuppy I'd love to help you try and sell this idea to Mojang, because a /tp that teleported in polar (spherical) coordinates would be so useful!

man that is complex, but it's really thorough. Probably one person who really went through explaining how raycasts actually work. I hope they become easier with other commands later (such as, an extended searching tag that tells what a player is looking at even past the normal block placing range [that would make hitscan possible in an instant, and could help in calculating direction]). I probably wouldn't use this for a normal project anytime soon, but it's good to know someone has tried to break it down. Hopefully someone can make a command template eventually.

By the way, if you'd like to hide the damage bar, you can simply make the carrot on a stick unbreakable when summoning it. I think the texture thing is one of my favorite 1.9 features! It let me do SO much on my server project! I've made kegs, weapons, doors, wall panels, all sorts of things!

One thing that would be cool to add (Im no command block genius so please correct me if this is impossible) Is bullets that lower when you use the gun, for an example a scoreboard. Love this concept, nice description of it as well. Would be fun to see if you could expand this to make a camera guided rocket launcher. (You shoot, your pos is saved, you enter GM 3, your orientation affect the proj vel, you gain view of proj). I even imagine that you have done that already. I released a grid/cell based tower defence map, and it would be awesome to have some turret (formation of armorstand heads) that could rotate so that it points to nearest target. Currently I'm limited to 4 directional turrets. I hope you can learn me something.

what would be the best way to move this over to a already existing map? I have attempted moving the whole structure over to another world using mc-edit but i cant get it working once im there. I put it on a test world and moved over the scoreboard data from the other but still nothing. I think that when i move it over with mc-edit it makes all the commands that start the machine inactive. I also attempting using the structure blocks and copy it in 4 pieces since the amount structure blocks can copy is small. I copied it on the same world and it worked in some ways but it was messed up.
