We've gone over how to create objects in ConceptsApp. Now let's see how we can leverage the app in other parts of our workflow! Here, we are creating blocks for Layout/AutoCAD.

Nice work. I've seen the options for dxf export but haven't had a need for it yet. Appreciate the content!

Thanks! Vector based opens a ton of options. Not to discredit the use of Morpholio or Procreate. But the infinite canvas and no pixelation are great to be able to change size and scale on a whim. Especially in our line of work. Thank you for watching! Glad you are finding it useful!

Sick style man. I’ve been doing something similar to your workflow but in Autodesk Sketchbook. It’s raster and not vector graphics so I’m intrigued by Concepts 🙏🏼

Thanks! I actually started out on Sketchbook when I was using my surface pro. I loved the setup, but switched to ipad just for ease of use while drawing and collabing with clients. Didn't have to wait for my windows system to boot up :) and those wonderful 30 min. sporadic updates! haha. The switch to vector was also huge. While it does have some limitations, it's just been much more fluid and fast for turnarounds and popping in and out of difference scales. We only work for other designers and its usually on a tight deadline so the ability to easily isolate, select and switch scales has been huge for our workflow. Thanks for the love!

Hi!! Where did you create the object that you import into the blank canvas at the beginning? I have checked your playlist and I don't see the tutorial that you mention

Sorry for that. Check out our 2 Minute Tut Playlist and there is a quick "Objects" tutorial under there!

can these drawings be opened on AutoCAD cause last time I opened it on their bunch of wiggly lines were coming up instead of an actual drawing

Yes. Couple things to keep in mind though: When you draw in concepts app, you are drawing from point to point with a line of information in between to dictate what that stroke looks like. That's why we can change a pen stroke to a marker stroke in concepts. It's all just a series a points with info between each point telling the program what tool we use and what that should look like. However, when you export the .dwg to a program like Autocad, autocad is only reading the lines. So if you used a watercolor brush for instance, CAD doesn't detect that information. Instead, it only sees a line between two points. In autocad, you can take that line and change the line type and style, but the perameters you set within concepts app won't carry over. Make sense?

Hi, great tips. I'm a garden designer and use Sketchup Pro and Concepts in combination and I never knew you could do this! Question... do you have to use a particular pen in Concepts for this to work. So does it have to be the basic fixed-width pen or can you use the fountain pen with a bit more character for example Thanks

Hey Jo! It’s whatever fits your style! I typically use the “pen black” style in SketchUp with detail turned all the way up, or I used “Construction Style” with extensions set to 4. Once in concepts I use the “Pen” tool. Gives a little thickness at the ends to emphasis the start and stop which matches my traditional style.

@@landshaperstudio thanks! I really like using the sketchy pen styles in sketchup but have yet to find a way of exporting just this linework with transparent faces so that I can have the sketchy linework as the top layer in a concepts render. I can export a PDF 2D image from sketchup so that the 'faces' are 'transparent' but I lose the sketchy style. Do you know if that is even possible?!

@@johobbsgardendesign2915 Yep! So question, are you exporting screenshots directly from SU or are you sending to Layout to scale and add to paper size? My typical workflow doing what you're talking about is Sketchup>Layout>Concepts. If you're doing it this way, then all you need to do is go into the selected style, edit > Face Settings. Under style in the face settings select wire frame. I was able to set my linework on top exporting both PDF and PNG this way. Hope this helps!

@@landshaperstudio I'm exporting straight out of SU as a png and then into concepts. Thanks for the tip.. but in a 3D view you see all the back edges which is annoying? Can they be turned off? I appreciate you taking the time!

@@johobbsgardendesign2915 I I see. So in a 2d Plan view style is what I was referring to. If you wanted to do 3d, you can send the view to layout and then set the model to vector then explode the model. This will leave only the visible linework. You could then export that. Are you using sketchup on a computer or Ipad?
