Sixty-two percent of patients in the U.S. say someone in their household has experienced at least one insurance coverage-related hurdle in the last two years, according to new polling from the American Hospital Association, and 43% say their health has gotten worse because of limited access to care. Molly Smith, vice president for public policy with the American Hospital Association, joined CBS News to discuss the poll.

WHY IS OUR PUBLIC HEALTH A FOR-PROFIT GAMBLE. WE NEED A NATIONAL HEALTH PLAN NOW.

What makes me sooo angry, is I pay for insurance every single month, and many times rarely even need to USE my insurance (luckily), or don't meet my deductible. Yet pay for my insurance I must, or risk loosing my insurance. So, I'm paying regular premiums, and they dont have to match/cover/contribute one cent some yeats! HOWEVER, on the "Murphy's Law" type situations/occurrences when I may have a particular year when several different health issues arise/happen in the same year, they tell me I've met my limit! So then, I have to decide which health condition is gonna have to WAIT until the next year?!?! It's disgusting! Insurance is such a racket!! It's totally a win-win for the insurance companies no matter what 😡. Also, insurance companies should NOT be preventing/contradicting/not covering what the DOCTOR is recommending!! 🤷

Eh, there are plenty of low/non-deductible health plans available that provide excellent coverage. You just don't want to pay for them. Also, doctors don't pay for the medical tests they're recommending so there's a bit of a moral hazard there. Its why they generally over test b/c their thought process is they're not paying for it and they'd rather be thorough. Its a flawed way of thinking...

This will surprise you, but the insurance companies are not here for your health… they are a business and it shows when you work in healthcare. Government needs to hold their feet to the fire. That is the only way things will change.

the Irony that government's job is to care for their people but their biggest interest are companies and people with money.

It is in almost every other developed country. Taxes help fund government-run "insurance", and having just one program cover everyone is surprisingly very inexpensive. If clinics and hospitals don't offer the single program the best price, then there will be very few customers, which is also tremendously effective at holding down prices.

Most of my doctors will not take Obamacare! I had three surgeons tell me to get on Medicare I do not qualify because I didn't have a qualifying disability. I need several surgeries and a cornea transplant. In addition to needing to have breast surgery for pre cancer. I guess I'll have to sell my house but that will only last a few months to cover the surgeries. I'm taking Paratransit as my Cataract surgery and cornea transplant last year went bad. I feel like we live in a third world country unless you're an immigrant crossing the border.
