The two legendary Bulgarian sopranos in impressive concert at the twilight of their extraordinary international careers. They are both 57 years old at the time of this concert in Sofia. Ghena and Anna have given me so much pleasure and excitement through the years in various theatres on 3 continents. They shared a lot of their repertoire (Aida, Tosca, Trovatore, Ballo, Simon Boccanegra, Don Carlo, Nabucco, Chenier, Prince Igor, Turandot, Norma, Cavalleria rusticana). It is interesting that Abigaile was the break-through role for both Ghena (in Sofia) and Anna (in Leipzig), both in 1967. But then they developed in a different way. Anna became the pre-eminent Strass and Mozart soprano of her generation while also exceling in Italian and Russian repertoire. Ghena remained firmly rooted in the Italian repertoire and became the most exciting and sought-after Gioconda, Lady Macbeth, Abigaile, Turandot, Santuzza of her time. They were both Verdi sopranos par excellence.

How amazing. Two f the greatest sopranos of the past fifty years, both Bulgarians, both the same age, both in the twilight of their career. Both together. Sadly the beloved Ghena is gone but Anna is still here. Both provided some of my greatest nights at the opera. Love the duet from a Pique Dame. Brought me to tears.

Brava Brava Brava algo poco visto y poco escuchado impresionante estas dos sopranos aqui hay un gran dominio técnico y un gran conocimiento de como emplear la voz solo el poder cantar ante esta grandísima orquesta y un repertorio extremadamente dificil vocal y musicalmente hay que ser lo que ellas son unas verdaderas Estrellas del mundo operistico gehma lo deja bien claro aqui en este concierto es una voz irrepetible e unicica te adoro gehma siempre pediré a dios que te ayude y de toda la gloria que te mereces a las personas que han hecho este concierto majestuoso y deslumbrante mis mas querida felicitaciones es algo que debe quedar en la biografia del mundo de la opera desde madrid un fiel y rotundo admirador de gehma

What a gift upload! . These soprano Bulgarian stars both at the end of their vocal careers could sing any comparative singer off the stage today (at any stage of their careers). It’s real throat involved technique not masked over hooty squeezed fake place vocal nonsense of today. One is able to look past Sintow and some of her decline here ( tempi/ attack ) but it’s 95%. Ghana rides firm with no vocal deterioration at all . In fact her middle latter years the voice was firmer than earlier . Go figure! Also there is a slight train wreck in the Norma duet for those that enjoy their “perle neri” @ 46:42. Ghana utters out one of the most beautiful moments of voice ever @ 31:51 #operagoldenage

I very much agree. Her emotional involvement in the "Manon Lescaut" aria just underscores how much it was missing in most of the rest. But wow, she was still sang the heck of everything.

I guess they made up by this time...Dimitrova once said of Tomowa: “She started as a mezzo with problems, and graduated to a soprano with problems”. The shaaaade.

Funny thing is Tamowa had the much "cleaner" voice and was by far the more elegant singer. Ghena was just loud, and her high notes were often iffy.

Ghena was impressive in any performance at Colon Theater Opera House at Buenos Aires City. Argentina. She sung Trovatore, Turandot , Tosca., Don Carlos, Andrea Chenier. and a wonderful recital, 👏👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌷🌷

An interesting archeological piece . But unfortunately tomowa-sintow had aged quite a lot vocally by then . Dimitrova , in a better vocal shape,seems very nervous and unsecure especially in the beginning.a bit sad...
