Sass donne l'illusion d'avoir la voix du rôle, mais elle a vu trop grand...résultat, une carrière de quelques années et c'est tout. Mauvaise actrice en plus.

Veramente un'infinito grazie per aver caricato e condiviso questa edizione che cercavo da una vita. Un'edizione a solo un'anno di distanza dalla mitica edizione di Abbado alla Scala e di direi i 4 protagonisti reggono perfettamente il confronto coi loro pari dell'edizione precedente. la direzione di Previtali non ha sempre dei tempi così innovativi e calzanti come quelli abbadiani, ma l'esperienza arriva dove non può l'estro e l'innovazione.

This is a gem!! Sass is absolutely fantastic. Verdi would of appreciated this "ugliness" in her voice. The perfect Lady Macbeth.

La he visto en el teatro Colón de Buenos Aires en 1969, con Cioni y McNeal, dirigiendo Bonynge, una maravilla, el gran teatro quedó pequeño con el agudo final del "Sempre libera" Bravísima!!🌹

Thanks for posting this sublime performance. The singers, even in the lesser roles, sang and acted spectacularly well, and their voices came through clearly so I could understand a lot without subtitles. Bruson especially. His "Pieta, rispetto, amore" was so beautifully and movingly sung. Sass was chilling; I'd never seen her before. Bergonzi is one of my favorites and he was in top form here. Ghiuselev is one I need to hear more of. Even the murderer who tells Macbeth the bad news had an amazing voice. Will definitely listen to this again.

I’ve always been intrigued by this performance. Some people criticize Voigt as if she’s 30, and just beginning her international career! But she had 20 years behind her on the greatest stages of the world, and recordings with many great conductors. At this point, Salome is just within her grasp, similar to when I saw her in the theater as Brunnhilde; fine effort, if not quite up to it. Obviously, Jerusalem and Jones are way beyond their great days, but it’s still enjoyable to see them in roles that don’t require bel canto singing. I saw Jones as Salome in New York, and in her prime, she knocked the role right over to Central Park!

Le plus beau et le plus grand Macbeth que j'ai jamais vu! Bruson toujours aussi sublime. Sass rarement vue en vidéo est une Lady impressionnante qui rappelle Callas dans ses inflexions vocales et son jeu. Bergonzi avec sa voix d'or me donne toujours beaucoup d'émotions et Ghiuselev ...quelle voix! Previtali donne une direction tendue, jamais caricaturale. La mise en scène magnifique avec son décor unique qui rappelle Wieland Wagner, loin de toutes ces horreurs actuelles. Bref sublimissime. Quel dommage qu'il n'y ai pas un DVD officiel de la RAI

I was lucky enough to see this play in house in 1984. True, especially live Verrett's voice was not as free as on other occasions, but I would like to emphasise, at the end of the opera, that beautiful 'Tiens' when she throws away the ring, sung and not shouted, the look of pity towards Don José, the idea of Domingo almost collecting Carmen's life in a last kiss, and many other things. This to me was great theatre, without the need for complicated and philosphical Konzepte

The costumes, hairstyle are not very flattering for the gyspies including Carmen. Verrett was in bad shape at this particuliar time, and it was not a good choice to sing that part at that moment. She has inner suttle nuances but the voice doesn't follow easily what she wants. Domingo's singing is beautiful, but the connexion between them is not really obvious, the staging doesn't show us a poor dominated man, but a handsome "chevalier", and he sings it to fit La Scala's size...

Verret's voice had moved up in the years before this - the role of Carmen just lay uncomfortable low for her in a time when she was singing soprano roles. As Verrett got older she developed a hole in her voice around the break from chest voice. That is why a lowish role like Carmen was a bad choice

@@Yves_Ka I know all this, she always had sort of a frail low medium ( listen to her Judith even in 75) and going back and forth between sopranos and mezzos was not always good. Having had a hysterectomy in 85, she recovered with an easier voice.

So far, this and the La Scala Shirley Verrett & Piero Cappuccilli version are my favorites. An excellent cast complimented by superb sets, costumes, staging and direction; a glorious tribute to the spirit of Verdi tradition. The ballet is a great surprise and exquisitely incorporated into the beginning of the 3rd act, so I guess this is a staging of the 1865 "Paris revision"? The choreography is lovely and engaging, unlike some of the tedious ballet sequences in certain productions of Les Troyens and Prince Igor.

This is Voigt in good voice, considering of course that it is her late period and she retired 3 years later. I used to find it sad that when she lost weight that she lost some quality in the voice, because most of the conversation surrounded the little black dress from Ariadne. But when I heard her say that she felt being 100+ lbs larger made traveling difficult and made her knees hurt, I am glad that she feels better at her current size and that we have all her recordings to enjoy.

Joan Sutherland was the one soprano who I thought was the total Violetta from a purely vocal standpoint. There were others more sensitive and more theatrically viable, but IMO no other soprano had the perfect vocal technical arsenal combined with the vocal weight to make this role really aurally exciting. Callas before 1953 comes close, and of course she surpasses Sutherland theatrically, but the Sutherland voice has so much opulence, thrust and "take-off" that I find hers the most vocally exciting and satisfying.

La Sass si impegna su una base di voce del tutto insufficiente,che non poteva reggere certi sforzi a lungo e infatti non ha retto. Ma noi,alla distanza, ne abbiamo visti di casi di gente disposta a immolarsi pur di fare qualcosa. Ang

조수미선생님의 천재적인 음악적 재능을 폰 카라얀도 한 눈에 알아보았듯이 탄탄한 Base위에서 목소리가 미려하고 뛰어난데다가 聲量까지 Powerfull하여 차별화된 콜로라투라의 진수를 발휘하는 것으로 생각됩니다. 음악평론가는 아니지만 클래식을 사랑하는 관객의 관점에서, 내가 좋아하는 마리아 칼라스나 로사 폰셀, 레타나 테발디 같은 세계최정상 소프라노들과 비교하여 나름대로 느낀점을 표현해 본 것입니다.

Artisti di un tempo che fu. La lirica, l'opera attuale è agonizzante. Manca poco e la perderemo per sempre. Tornasse in vita per qualche giorno, Verdi, farebbe piazza pulita. Un reset totale di questi mediocri cantanti, di falliti registi, di sciacalli scenografi, e di incompetenti direttori artistici.
