This concert for Ivry causes my heart to swell with love and admiration for both Ivry and for Khatia. Two wonderful musicians. Khatia is such a wonderful woman, artist, linguist, sister, daughter, of the world. This tribute to Ivry was such a nice gesture and one we will all remember. Ivry has aged so gracefully and he is such a tribute to the world of music.

Khatia is a splendid and rare gift. She’s so versatile and gracious to her fellow artists, and the audience. Her love and admiration for Ivry is precious and soooo sweet. He said it himself: she’s not just a wonderful pianist, but a wonderful person. ❤️I fell in love with classical music because of her! Brava, Khatia! 🌹

Oh my Gosh!!!! What a wonderful performance of César Franck. The last movement is been full of emotions: a very well done musical architecture, a high music building… full of secrets, shadows and sunchines, dusks and dawns… This music makes what Franck was telling to us about a better world through music in order to become us into a better human being citizen. And now you, Ms Buniatishvili and Mr. Vengerov have the skill to raise that goal for everyone with your great performance with such as subtle accuracy. No words to explain what Mr. Gitlis means for music and for mankind. And at his age… his finest sense of humor is enormous! What a very great group of friends with him…! Music makes solidarity, equality, social justice… if you are ready to spread that at your time, place and to the society that you have to live with… What a splendid lesson of life!

I just realised that Maxim is not playing his usual beautiful Kreutzer Strad here! This one sounds a little bit thin in tone. Still lovely. Do we know why he switched violins for this performance? I know he swapped between a few violins in the 90's but he's been using the Kreutzer for years! An exhibition maybe?
@DevilViolinist4 жыл бұрын
@Big마리오 Yes the piano is very very loud, but I am talking about the thin quality of tone, the timbre of Vengerov's violin here. To me it sounds a bit hollow and metallic/shiny in comparison to his other Strad which I find very thick in tone, very broad and like a flute in the higher range while also sounding like a tenor opera singer on the lower strings.

I'm still intrigued as to which Strad Mr Vengerov is playing here. I wonder why he's not playing on his Kreutzer Strad. Perhaps his love is in for repairs or something? If that's the case, then whose violin is he using in this concert?

"Well, you heard her, but not me. Wait. May I ask a little favour? I really like seeing the audience, but they’re all in the dark. So if it’s possible to light up the auditorium ... You’re so wonderful that now we can start. Yes, well, since you’re sitting down, there’s no reason for us to stand up. Anyway, I have a story that goes like this: Someone asked me after a short trip to Paris, I don’t know, Marseille, “Was it good, your trip?” I said, “Listen, there were no standing places, so I had to sit down.” Listen, seriously, I’d like to tell you that I’m very touched, moved and happy in the sense of being happily unhappy or unhappily happy because it’s life ... and first to have Khatia, who’s a ... She’s ... I was going to say that she’s a wonderful pianist and so on, but she’s a wonderful person and she’s a pianist like no other. There aren’t two or even three or even four in the world like her. [That’s what he says!] And [incomprehensible] I’m very touched that he invited me, like that, and to have Maxim and all these other friends, who’ve come around [?]. So we’re just going to play a few little pieces. Most of this piece was written and played by someone who all violinists and pianists and all musicians, in fact [?] as a young boy, I was lucky enough to hear him - I hate this word - “live” - I don’t know what it means; it means that everyone else is dead, I suppose - well, it was Fritz Kreisler. Okay, and we’re going to start with Liebesleid by Kreisler. And Liebesleid means love’s pain. Liebe means love and Leid means suffering, but ... without suffering one can have love, but without love one can’t have suffering, so they go well together ... I meant to say that Barbra [Streisand?] said, 'My greatest love is you [the audience].'”
@josephlaredo52726 жыл бұрын
... and then introducing the second piece he says that he always thought Rosmarin was a girl but he discovered it was a flower. "Well, you can't have everything in life!"
@legheellover5 жыл бұрын
Very well translated, sir, but Mr Gitlis is not referring to Barbara Streisand, but to a French female singer from 50-60's Barbara. She had a famous song entitled: " My biggest love is you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmKohWyilpZ9q68
