Das Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam has become the best orchestra in the world. These musicians really love music and they take very seriously his job like artists, not divas competing with a famous director to see who's more important. This performance is really amazing, Maestro ANDRIS is absolutely a great conductor of our time.

Nelsons loves the music and gets immersed in it. I have seen him conduct this great orchestra in both symphonic music and opera. I don't mind his antics. The orchestra plays well under him. That is all that matters.

The viewer needs to remember that the conductor is controlling the orchestra. Those people that don't like the mannerisms of the conductor need to not watch him,or her, or sit in the back row. Andris Nelsons is highly respected by the orchestras he conducts, or he would be out of business. This is one of the top orchestras in the world, in one of the great halls. The whole event sounds great, looks super, and is a success.
P.I.Tchaikovsky ! Grande musica ! Un'esecuzione perfetta e incantevole.

This is a great performance which would be better if we had not to look all the time to Mr. Nelsons ' gesticulation... A magical performance was recorded by Karajan in the early times of the LP (Decca) with the Vienna philharmonic and of course all of Gergiev's performances of Tchaikovsky's works are the best because it has the true Russian feeling which explodes in his performances. His Paris concerts of the full symphonies were absolutely astounding (they can be found on youtube I think and have been recorded on dvd)

I'm afraid you critics and "cheerleaders" are missing the point. Classical music was the popular music of its day, so , in the final analysis, the only opinion that matters is the one of the individual listener. Whether a novice, or a expert musician, the question to be answered is, "Was it enjoyable"? If yes,then the first time listener might get hooked and become a paying subscriber and support the performers. Otherwise, if you can't say anything nice,then. . . .

I think it's a bit ungenerous to say this is not a good performance. Of course it's not one of the best around, just listen (Y.T.), for instance, to Valery Gergiev/LSO who puts so much more drama into the music. Good would best describe Nelsons in this instance but by no means great.

Tchaikosky is full of cheap tricks - repeated chromatic flourishes and endless repeated harmonics on the harp - yet the music succeeds because of the beauty of his melodic invention.
@ComposerInUK10 жыл бұрын
I don't want to start a fistfight here (!) but I completely disagree about Tchaikovsky's level of harmonic, sequential and architectural skill. I've loved Tchaik for 50 years now and I do get rather tetchy with people who say he 'gets by' because of the level of his melodic invention. I hope you don't take this personally - it's a genuine disagreement. All good wishes.

Such a careless performance. Good in parts but the whole lacks integrity. Just one case in point, the timpani roll stops at the last chord in Tchaikovsky's score. Tchaikovsky really did know what he was doing. Such a shame...
@karllieck90647 жыл бұрын
I agree. I hate conductors who take spineless liberties with the score and try to make it their creation. And yes, the composer knew very well what he was doing. I'm a composer, and if a conductor diddles with my score in such a fashion, I'll beat him like a gong. As you stated,Tchaikovsky does stop the drum roll on the last held out note.( And it's magnificent.) Overall, I found the performance rather insipid and lacking great passion. Also, the love theme on both accounts were rushed.

Great orchestra, poor conductor: his smart eyes seach the score almost every bar. What the devil he's looking for already in the first bar? Can't he remember two notes? So it's impossible to show the magic moments to the orchestra - nevertheless they play with inspiration...
