I was in the audience and let me tell you, the energy in that stadium when Conchita performed was incredible. The epic, positive song and that performance (wow, that performance) had us all on our feet at the end. for everybody who's confused - there is a thing called **wikipedia** that you can go onto to solve all your confusion. if you're too lazy just read here: conchita wurst is a drag act, the artist behind her is male and not confused, not weird, and certainly not a "disgusting thing". he's an artist. a human being. and he's SO much a better human being than all of you haters! :D
@libertilgs10 жыл бұрын
wikipedia is not the best source to direct people. wurst is a gay man, who wants to be a woman, but is not sure how to accomplish that and if he should keep his dick or remove it eventually. people are confused by a lost& confused creature, which is perfectly ok. it's normal to be confused because what we are viewing here is absolutely not normal.

Everybody is saying that other songs were better and that she only won for being a gay icon. I call bullshit. Very few people with a masculinized voice can sing that effortlessly and smoothly in that high a tessitura. This song is a singular masterpiece and the people who say she only won for being a bearded woman are the ones in denial.

They are simply one factor of many and all those factors are fair game. I'm Dutch, we had a magnificent song that many people felt should have won. Yet if we had to lose against anyone, this is exactly the type of act I would hope to lose against. There were just two winning songs that day and there was only one prize. The song festival is not about who has the best song and the best singer. Conchita has the strongest message and has tremendous courage for getting up on that podium and singing her heart out, despite knowing that she would be hated on by all the bigots. Do you even understand how difficult that must be? To be honest, my brain is still confused when I look at her, but I respect her heart and courage and I find her message to be beautiful.

going through the comments makes me realise how important it actually was that she won. It might not have been he best song (though it was sung nicely) but just the message she tried to give people. Because you're like her, gay or whatever doesn't mean you can't do the same things as straight people. why should sexual orientation matter if we're all human? we should all be proud that she won nomatter how she looked like, it means that europe is finally growing up.

Frankly, I don't see how we can have a competition where some singers are treated by some countries as the Devil. Really, it is as simple as that, it doesn't make sense. If the juries have to sign a document saying they will all act independantly (and that needs to be rigourously enforced too, not just choose the most obvious one to chuck out), then *the jurors also need to sign a document pledging that they will treat every performer as equal, and prove it.*

The sun is bright Would you say that your statement applies to a man who plays the part of a woman in a play or in a film/TV drama? Gordon Bennett, in that case every man who played a woman in the Shakespearean era should be dug up and flogged! He's a drag act, which means he plays a part. It's very obvious that he's not a woman, since his mannerisms and movement are not like most women. When he's not wearing a dress he is just Tom - In his mind there is no confusion. On the whole he isn't actually causing direct harm to anyone, other than challenging some people's sensibilities. In his acceptance speech he calls for peace rather than conflict, he calls for hope amongst dreamers. That's quite admirable really, rather than wrong.

Why is everyone so against people doing what they have to right to do? A person can be who they want to be without having to deal with people who think that 'we weren't created to be gay' or 'we can only be a man or woman'. In my opinion, people were created to make their own choices and do what they want in life. If that means that someone wants to be a drag act with a beard then so be it. Conchita wants to be identified as a woman and she has the right to ask of that. She can choose her own gender. Anyone can choose their own gender. Everyone has the right to that. So before you comment "this is wrong. What is our society becoming" or anything stating that Conchita's or anyone else's choices in life are wrong, remember that the choices we make are our own and as long as our choices don't hurt anyone, directly or indirectly, we shouldn't have to be judged

For all those who say that eurovision turned into a freak show or it's not as it used to be, well, we LIVE in 2014, NOT back in the 50's... A lot of things changed since then and either you want to accept it and move forward, or stay narrow-minded and live with the past. Everyone is different. They don't have to be exactly as you want them to be cause it's their life. Thank you.

***** Yes, I agree. Maybe we should go towards the 50's. We are currently so 450BC-ish, with boys loving boys, open gay love everywhere, that I feel we're back in the ancient Hellenic ages. Family values, order, growth, families holding together - society was socially MORE advanced in the 1950's than it is now! We plunged into decadence, egotrips and laziness. Also: Seeing gay holding hands is harassing to me. It fills me with disgust, like seeing a tarantula hissing.I am sorry, but that is just the way it is - I cannot change that. It is nature.
@anyakimlin67029 жыл бұрын
***** Rubbish. My children and their friends are kind, decent and very tolerant people who have no problem understanding a drag act with a beard. When my daughter watches shows set in the 1950s she is however disgusted and finds the morals of that time period incomprehensible. "How can they treat people like that?" When she saw the "No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs" she was horrified. As a clever, strong intelligent, bisexual young woman life has more to offer in 2015 than it ever did in 1950. As a woman no way would I want to go back to a time when I was held back and devalued.
@papachurchbook9 жыл бұрын
The mean of the word beautiful and ugly remain the same through the ages. To be a transexual with beard is his right, but we are not forced to consider him as beautiful. Of course we have to treat him and every person like him as equal, but he remains ugly.

I'm totally... shocked by all the comments. This person (man or woman) is HUMAN. You can't ignore that fact, and he/she is in the contest as the others, so how can you be so intolerant and injuring? I can't believe that what I'm reading below has been written seriously by some human beings.

I just don't understand why success in this contest should have anything at all with one's sexuality or gender identity. It's a fucking SINGING contest, so judge the contestants based on their SINGING - that's what should be focused on here.
@lili.dempsey10 жыл бұрын
Well it is a pretty good song so I don't understand dp why everyone thinks she only one because of the gay statement ._.

@freddierogers201910 жыл бұрын
I mean she's a wonderful singer, but worthy of winning? I don't know. I won't pretend to know, as I didn't know all the contestants. I'm just saying I hoped they judged based on singing talent and not anything else, because these days networks are trying to be almost *too* PC, and pushing people forward in competitions because of factors completely unrelated to the actual competition.

I always thought Europe was somewhat better about its acceptance of people's lifestyles and choices than America, but scrolling through the comments, I can tell I may have been wrong... She did an amazing job and only one can win. According to every video, each country should've won, but that's a little tough to do don't you think?
@roelandoosterom63102 жыл бұрын
I will be honest: From my view of point was a Dutch victory a fact, although Conchita proves that she had a voice of insane proportions. Powerful song, good voice. So now it is a Eurovision icon, a classic and above all a deserved winner

this song is amazing, i can see it being a theme for james bond, SHE was stunning even with the beard, why can't people just accept that it's 2014, people can express themselves in a way that is true to them even if it doesn't fit the norm, homophobia is old and boring so just accept that she won and move on, it doesn't affect your life
@JubJubBirdProduction10 жыл бұрын
