Around 27:00 you played your tribune and got 2 Sestertii because you had played 5 cards. Actually, the pile contained the Senator, which you had thought of playing but didn't. So you should have gotten 1 Sestertium only.

+rahdo Good video. Just want to point out that at 27:21 you hadn't played the Senator card but had only begun to when you changed your mind to play the Tribune. However, when you played the Tribune card, you counted having played 5 cards (by including the Senator as well which you should not have included as you hadn't played it) instead of 4 and thus took 2 Sestertii instead of 1 Sestertius!! :)

i would say it's totally valid to go heavy for cards early instead of land. they don't cost money, unlike land, so they're easier to acquire, they give you more flexibility and options, they're just as important as multipliers, and they increase your income from tribune.

Correct. Rahdo forgot to put back the Senator card he had thrown in there before he decided to not do that action and instead do the Tribune.

so expand early and get as much land/resources as you can....that is it no? am I missing something? if you try to grab card early, you just won't be able to do anything and get bogged down?

Since new gmail integration doesn't let me reply to people directly, FREEJUNK2: I think it was more that I played dumb. You can get resources just as readily by buying them at the market, if you've got money. So if you're not getting terrain early, you need to get money more aggressively so you can buy what you need. Eventually you do have to get land though, there's no getting around that :)

Just so you know - you had 5 cards in your pile when you tribuned, but Jen would have only had 4 - meaning you took 1 too many...

Ca. 30:00 : If I understood the rules correctly playing the diplomat to copy a trivune really would make no sense anyways. Since you pick up all cards after playing the tribune you never give it out of hand, so you can always play a tribune, taking any insentive away to copy someone elses. Right?

ok, i haven't played the game but it looks like when Jen tried to get cards in the beg she just kinda shot herself in the foot since she ran out of resources and couldn't grab any land. without the land, it seems hard to get the resources you need?

Rahdo, there is no 'U' in the Roman Alphabet; the letter 'V' stands for both the consonant 'V' and the vowel 'U'. Thus "Ligvira" is in English "Liguria". Common use determines which it is. And the 'V' consonant is pronounced like a 'W'. Similarly there is no 'K' in Latin and the 'C' is pronounced 100% like a hard 'K'; it was never pronounced like a soft 'S'. Thus the prefix for 100 (cent-) is pronounced 'kent-' and not 'sent-'. There are other letters missing too. Like Latin 'I' is used as both a consonant 'J' and a vowel 'I'. All of which plays silly buggers when trying to import words from another language like Greek. And I think it is a GREAT ('magnus ludus') game. Be well.
