Just so I understand: the railway station in question opened in May 1964, under what was then the socialist Yugoslav government. A renovation project was carried out from between 2021 to 2024, the first significant reconstruction of the station since it first opened. The work was done by a consortium of Chinese companies: China Railway International Co., Ltd and China Communications Construction Company, Ltd. The station reopened in July 2024 after these renovations, although some work was still ongoing in certain areas. Crucially, both the Chinese contractor and Serbian Railways Infrastructure stated that the canopy which collapsed on November 1, 2024, was not specifically part of the recent renovation work. The collapsed canopy was part of the original 1964 construction and had not been renovated since then. At least that's the official statement from all relevant parties.

I'm sorry that such a disaster has happened. I keep telling some of the overly enthusiastic Orthodox in my neighborhood that corruption and abuse of power is as terrible a sin as abortion or sexual immorality. I find it appalling that the Church people including clergy constantly rails ONLY against abortion and LGBT but remains blind and deaf to the sins associated with power.

1:49 Regarding your comment about moving to Serbia, I'm pretty sure you mean to address Westerners who have no blood connection to our lovely country but I've recently been thinking about moving "back home" as a second-generation half Serb born and raised on a Mediterranean island. Perhaps it is better in one of the rural villages of which my Serbian family hails from? Back on topic, may the Lord grant the victims of the disaster eternal rest. Amen. Поздрав са Малте ☦️🇲🇹🤍❤

Unfortunately, some of the things you claim plagues Serbia, plagues the globe. Especially, true here in the United States. I feel terrible for the people that woke up, went about their business and are now gone because of something they would never imagine happening.

Another Brutalist construction. If it isn't mold and mildew, leaks, high energy bills, it's roofs collapsing. How about reigning in the Brutalist architects and Brutalist builders and get back to beautiful buildings made well?

The building was fine - the renovation tampered heavily with the statics and the balance of the building.
