I just did a DIY Corian countertop in my kitchen. The amount of work, the building of bull noses, undermount sink installation and creation of the cutout, the strategy of supporting the Corian so that later on it will not crack due to shrinkage etc, the gluing, the construction of seams, sanding and polishing ... It adds up to a huge amount of work, patience care and ...money for special tools: sawblades, routers etc etc. Do I believe it is superior to a well done concrete countertop? No I believe that the concrete countertop if done patiently carefully etc. can have the same elegance to a hair. Just think about it: You make the Corian look thicker than it is by gluing a double layer of strips to the edges, rounding the edges polishing, etc. etc. whereas the concrete thickness needs not to be faked! In fact the concrete countertop, the way it looks to me needs to appear thinner than it actually is, for the sake of elegance. And then the price!!! If I was to do the entire project again, I would seriously look at making it out of concrete.

downside of doing the sink like that is you dont get the counter to overhang the edges of the insides of the sink about 1/4" like typical, which looks better... i think if i were to do this i would pour the counter without the sink, make the hole form proper size, and then mount the undermount sink after as typical (i do silicone, clamp up thru the drain hole, and install angle shelf brackets under)

I am planning and about to do the same. I have an undercount sink too and thinking of how to change the sink in future? As the sink is sandwiched between the play wood and concrete?

Great video. I have a concrete countertop but I don't think it is solid concrete like yours. A huge chunk chipped off and it seems much thinner than what you have here. Also it's much lighter. I am now trying to repaint but cannot seem to find a way to match its existing paint... i'm not sure how it was painted. Is there anyting you would recommend if I just want to repaint the whole thing? Can I just use standard indoor/outdoor latex paint?

What sealer did you use was the finish matte flat no shine

Can you tell us what stain / sealer you used? Also, how’s the sealer holding up?

Surecrete sealer and eco stain, made by surecrete. It is holding up great, I’m really testing it hard because I have plans to do my whole Cabin build project. I literally have 60 bags of countertop to pour so I want to make sure it is perfect first. Are you going to pour some countertops?

@@ConstructionCoach Yes. My island is 4.5’ by 8’ and I’m nervous. Trying to decide on materials. Right now I’m leaning toward the CTS Rapid Set Mortar Mix which has a tan grey color with some pebble aggregate which would be beautiful ground down and polished, or CTS Rapid Set Cement All, which is a light grey color, which uses silica sand for aggregate and very high strength. Thoughts?

That’s a big island! My only thoughts are with rapid set you have to mix and place the concrete fast before it sets up. The pour in this video took 3 bags, I figure you would need to mix up 16 bags to pour your island.

I would use a mixer to speed up that process, and make sure you have it all placed within 20 minutes. You are going to need help to mix, and finish if you use rapid set.

Psi 6000 - bags from Home Depot Uzin NC 886 floor patch for filling Eco stain white from - Surecrete Matte finish 2 part Countertop sealer - Surecrete Let me know if you need anything else. I have a new video drop, it is all the rest of the countertops in the cabin build. 45 bags worth! It turned out great.

I dunno....lots of days and effort. Certainly appreciate the pursuit, if someone just must have concrete... but that white/gray working surface you were mixing the sealant on strikes me as a much better choice. Whatever that product is - corcoran? it looks great and if you used that for the sink, could have been done in a day, no?

The working surface is quartz, my brother is a countertop guy and he would have changed me $6-800 for that top. Under mount sinks are pricey. I did that top for $50 and I have another 300 sq feet to do on my build. In quartz or granite it would be 20k and I’ll get all my tops done for $1500. Pretty big savings!

@@ConstructionCoach yeah but time. not sure if worth it over quartz. that said, if you want the concrete look, there is no alternative! another way to save money is to tile it with large format. altho that has its own drawbacks,...

@@ConstructionCoach thank u... $ savings def a big plus. I guess it all depends but, to be real, its not actually $50.... plywood, metal angle, tape, etc... it adds up a bit more i am thinking. Depends on what the big picture is too.... u can get home depot laminate countertop for about $150... so it need not be high end stone or concrete. U did nice work and i like the idea of it.... but now that i see how long it takes.... probably would lean toward boring quick options, to just be done w it.
