Good information. One tip for any body new to concrete form work: Apply some kind of form release to the form boards. It can be as simple as rubbing a little Crisco on them before the pour. If you use a sprayer, say for diesel, do not get the re-bar oily. Also watch your form boards during the pour. If they flex outward, you can push them back into vertical before the concrete sets up. You want your foundation absolutely rectangular and plumb.

If the bricks are sitting on top of concrete foundation, then it should be the same. If this didn't answer your question, then provide more details.

Hi Greg. Would you tie the anchor bolts together using rebar along the footing? The rebar is 'too close' to the exterior of the concrete footing but it might provide better holding for the sole plate to the concrete slab? Thanks for the details. I guess it might not be approved but work well in CA where drier ground is becoming the norm.

Absolutely, tie the anchor bolts to a piece of rebar. Most structural engineers draw in that way, but it's often difficult to center a piece of rebar in a six or an 8 inch wall where the anchor bolts are only going to be spaced about an inch and three quarters away from the edge for a 2 x 4 wall framing plate.

If you can pour it all at once, that would probably be better.

If there is already a 10x12 concrete patio poured, can you build on top of it? I don’t know if there is any rebar bracing on the inside..

Hi Greg, I I live is Southern California I would like to connect my detached garage to my house. It has concert all around can I leave the slab in place and just open up the area for footing and add more concrete on top of the slab to match the level of the home?

I would think so, but this is something you would need to verify with your local building department. We used to pour over slabs if we had a minimum of 2 inches that we could pour over.

Question, I wasn't able to pour the floor right away so the rebar has surface rust, do you remove the surface rest before pouring the floor? And how do you do that? Can you just use a rust remover liquid?

It's easier to add another raised floor most of the time for an addition, but it can be done. What are you building?
