In repairing a sill plate in the basement and a damagef ribbon on the 1st floor how would you go about changing the 1st floor studs/floor system to platform framing instead of going straight to foundation wall?

I am sure it is the same as in the video, If i use the kitchen sink for a bit, the tub will start to fill, it drains but its very slow (30+mins), I've dumped clog remover down bathroom tub drain, that didn't work. Would it be advisable to do another drain cleaner, but from the the kitchen sink. If, yes, would I want to do this after letting the water fill up the tub a bit or with a dry pipe? (calling a plumber or snaking it myself, is next option). please help. Thank you

How does this house hold up to extreme weather? It's made of wood so I'm guessing not so well. History has proven wooden houses are awful. Get a grip and build a real house.

Imma just put some pavers down and lay my first beams down on them. Got the wood for free so easy come easy go if the termites get it.

I like the idea, and was toying with it myself recently. There is an issue with the approach of inserting the long rebar, and that is if you intend to use rebar rod into a hole that is drilled to the same OD (which is the ideal way in order to minimize movement, and can even avert the need for epoxy), then you will never be able to knock it in as required. Also, precisely and accurately manipulating rebar at those lengths is not an easy thing to do and I think you might get an inconsistent outcome. Lastly, if you stray off-perpendicular even a fraction when you drill your holes, then your rebar grid is going to be just a bit too funky. But, the thinking is definitely worthwhile imho.

Instead of trying to make an otherwise rectangular deck frame circular, why not break up the circle into multiple sections like pie slices? Trillium Domes has a good video on this on their youtube channel.

Like you mentioned in the beginning of the video, is it possible to install a roof without the seat cuts? I don't have the tools available to make those cuts and I am building a small shed for a local highschool. One wall is 8 feet tall and the other wall is 7 feet tall.

I have seen a supposed expert carpenter build one with an add on. Add on was living room roof was lower than a frame so all the heat went right up to upstairs bedroom. Living room always cold had to put monitor heater in living room for heat eventhough he had wood stove in kitchen. If you do an add on make roof same hight.

would running a 12/3 wire over a door header to upgrade to/add a 3way switches be okay? have a truss attic with like 4 ft blown in insulation so be easier to go over the door and redo the drywall. some reason this house the light switch is 12 ft from the door. very frustration to find in the dark.

Thanks so much for this demo! Do you have thoughts about the longevity of a tub with this sort of problem? I bought a 1 bathroom condo and have been noticing an identical sound, off and on. I really hope it doesn't give out soon as I don't have the money to replace it yet...

Its insulation would be fine if you use nail base. R19-21 in the 2x6 rafters with nailbase for your decking over that to get to the R value you want.

Best to stay away from building on expansive soil especially with a slab on grade, put in a crawl space and you will have less problems or put in a raft slab. Where i live we never put in a foundation wall without a ftg and we do not use CMU walls for foundation walls, too many joints for problems to occur

Greg, Thank you for your video, it was very helpful. We are currently planning an addition to our house. My designer suggested building a 9-foot high second floor above the existing 8-foot first floor, with a vaulted ceiling in the loft. But I feel that once one come to the second floor, we might not want to spend time in the cramped first floor anymore. Do you have any suggestions? Also, how much would it cost to raise the first floor to nine feet as well? Would adding height increase the cost compared to not raising it? And would it compromise the structural integrity compared to the original design? If you have the time to answer my questions, I would greatly appreciate it!

I think it's a personal preference. You will need to ask a contractor in your area about cost.

If clay holds the water, then wouldn't the water sitting in the gravel get absorbed by the clay around it? Gravel doesn't retain or absorb water.

How do I go about fixing the second issue? Is it something to worry about? I kinda am just bothered by the visual aspect lol. Can I just raise the rafters or do I have to worry about the outer walls?

What if you did this with just one ceiling joist out of a 60x40 building that has rafters every 6'? I want to run a lift between the rafters (same direction as the rafters). So If I raise just one I would have 12' between normal rafters to run the lift.
