Has anyone considered that the young girl's understanding of "space" may refer to the table's surface space that makes contact with the play dough; not the 3D space of the play dough? If so, the young girl is correct in saying that the "hot dog" play dough takes up more space (it touches a larger table surface space) than the rolled up ball. Scientists may need to be more careful with explaining definitions to children, in these studies, to obtain more accurate results about a child's developmental stage.

I was just coming to comment my thoughts similar to yours. I agree with you.

for the last clay test the hot dog shaped clay piece would take up more space in that form v.s the other piece of clay shaped like a ball, or if you actually stand the hot dog shaped piece of clay up right it would technically take up less space than the ball shaped piece of clay, but it would take up more height,so with young children their brains are working at an extremely literal sense and so the tester would have to be extremely precise on what you mean by space, what the lady should have ask is which do you think would weigh more? because the word space has a broad meaning.

She didn't specify by saying take up more space in the room. The girl assumed she meant table.

Exactly, the child probably laughed on the inside and said, this lady is a fool

Exactly. That made no sense.

I first thought that the hotdog took up more space, but then i realised that it wouldn't because i wasn't thinking in terms of 3d dimensional space, but had to be prompted by the guy saying it was incorrect.

What do they mean exactly with "taking up more space"?
@PopBunny88994 жыл бұрын
@@nikotakai8796 I guess have more surface area.

Instead of reading like a robot, why don't you explain what you're talking about in your own words as well as explain what the implications are to the classroom

I guess you're not in your formal operational stage yet
