Why am I watching? I'm a QS student at WelTec and this helps me wrap my head around the sequencing for a slab foundation!

Ha, knew an old builder and he refused to use ready-made frames. Hardcore always did his own. Even had a Mckenzie saw, none of those flash dropsaws. How many remember those old saws? First time I used it I was like!

I made our own frames a few times in my apprenticeship, its a cool process, but the guys in the factory can definitely knock them together way faster

Ill watch your videos regardless, but i really hate slabs for a number of reasons. As you said it's a cheaper way of doing it. My main problem is that afterwards all the plumbing goes into the roof space which seems crazy. Our house is about 60 years old and we had a few pipes burst under the house, being on timber subfloor it wasn't a big deal. Can't imagine how bad it would have been if we had plumbing in the ceiling lol.

It doesn’t go into the ceiling, it goes under the slab

this is a weatherboard cladding, not brick veneer, right? Good video!
@nzbuilder
@nzbuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Yes most of the homes I build are weatherboard, I do have a brick one coming up on the site we just demolished a home

@@nzbuilder the slab is flat at edges so I think it is a weatherboard cladded house. There will be steps on edge beams for brick veneer house, right?

doesn't the rib raft help with making concrete slabs cheaper by reducing concreting volume ..
@nzbuilder
@nzbuilder 2 жыл бұрын
Great Question! I just added up a recent slab for comparison and the Ribraft would actually use just slightly more than a 3604 slab, but only by 0.07 of a cube. In theory at least. This is Because of the volume of concrete between all the ribs, adds up, But it would really depend on a number of things - how thick your top layer is, we like to go thicker than minimum - number of thickenings in the slab - if you were doing 3604 the depth you had to make footings - and how good the footings edges were In saying all that RIbRaft is definetly way faster to put together and makes site works a breeze,
