No, but they almost disappeared. All Catalan cultural manifestations were "fossilized" and folklorized according to a principle of anti-Catalan xenophobia that did not only exist during Franco's fascim. It still continues today. It was intended to convert living and popular culture into a stereotyped version, something common in any colonialist regime: the culture of the indigenous is a "curiosity" and is always inferior to that of the colonizer. The native language, Catalan, was banned and the Spanish colonial language was implemented, and this fact helps to understand everything.
