2.07 perfect condensation explanation 😉. Down in the forest, there is little or no wind but the view is way better at the top of the hill.

The view was better, and there was probably less condensation in my tent also. 😀 /Matti

This is a great explanation. Remembering that the tent should have the same temperature on the inside and outside of its wall should help override the instinct to batten everything down. Many thanks!

Hi Matti! Thanks for your fantastic videos! That’s a great explanation but I’d add water vapor and dewpoint to it. It really isn’t water, it turns into water (or ice) when the temp reaches the dewpoint. In aviation this is an important figure and we keep track of how close to fog/condensation/icing we are. Listening again I realize that’s what you were talking about at 4:30. Talking about condensation in a sleeping bag… I just got my new winter bag. It’s an inner down bag with an outer synthetic bag so that condensation happens in the synthetic bag. I haven’t tried it though… Have a great summer. I hope it lasts more than a month for you guys up in Jokkmokk!

Interesting video and interesting subject with some good info but imho there is something you missed. You explain that when damp warm air gets colder, that's when condensation happens, which explains why camping on damp ground causes condensation, and why having a warm tent or sleeping bag, or inside your waterproof jacket, causes condensation. And you explained that having good airflow (better ventilation or stronger wind) removes the condensation. The other factor is that exposure to a cloudless sky makes your flysheet very cold (much colder than the surrounding air) because it radiates heat into space (which is nearly at absolute zero -273C) but gets no radiant heat back at night time. That's why dew settles on grass, and dew also settles on your flysheet when it becomes cold. If you are sheltered from the sky by trees, or clouds, then they radiate heat back to your flysheet about the same as it radiates heat to them, because they are at the same temperature, so your flysheet stays at air temperature. One way to prevent condensation on your tent on a cloudless night would be to put a tarp above it - then the tarp collects most of the condensation and your tent stays drier. Thanks for investigating this and also for your beautiful video and campsite.

Thanks for the tip with tarp. It adds some weight to equipment but it's acceptable for bikepacking.

Hej i love all your videos! I have myself 4 draghundar. 2 alaskan huskys and 2 Siberian huskys. The 2 alaskans are 2 and 3 years old and are very well trained. The 2 Siberian are now 5 months old. I was thinking of doing a small part of the kungslede this winter. Like 100 km in 3 days. Do you think this is possible with only 4 dogs and a small sled?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! People make it without dogs or with just one dog. 😀 During our 4 day trips, we very often use 4 dogs on each sledge. /Matti

Matti, I’d like to know if you have experimented with a bivy bag and tarp set up to avoid condensation, particularly in colder weather? What’s your pros and cons of it in your environment?

Hallo Matti, tack for the nice vid. A unsolved problem i have is a wet sleepingbag in Winter. The only option that i did not test yet is a VBL. How do you keep your sleeping bag dry on multi day winter tours? P.S. I am looking forward to have a breakfast in the City Konditoriet in Yokkmokk again.

I always bring along a snorkel for me and the dog..if this fail ..we put up the tent then go stay in an hotel..works wonders..in reality me and the pooch lived all year round for 3 years in a tent.. condensation was a nightmare..

I like it. It works fine. Today, I use that system, but I heard someone saying that there exists a better one. Something that works as peak design, but it's faster to snap it to a tripod. /Matti

Do you find that tent does okay blocking the sun? I live in northern Canada, and find it hard sleeping during the long daylight of summer. I am wondering how bright it gets inside with the sun? I also tend to camp at campsites, so it's a privacy concern as well if the fly is so thin everyone can see me when I have a light.on inside 😂 Thank you for the video!

Hahahaaa… White- transparent tent is not good for a date… as you say, everyone will see everything. ;-) Warm summers… Dark colours on the tent absorb heat and white tents are little bit better. But I totally agree… sunrise 02:00 and then it’s more or less impossible to sleep inside… and outside there will be some mosquitoes. ;-) /Matti
