After digging a hole, place a rock on both sides of the hold, now put the heel of each boot you are wearing on one of the rocks so that your heel is higher than the ball of each foot. Now Squat & dump. The rocks under each heel will provide you with stability. all during the "squat". Warm Regards from far away Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.

Good to see you again, Stina😊 I don't have any questions regarding this particular subject matter. However, I think I recall you mentioning during your kennel tour that you use the dog pooh in your compost - if possible, could you do a video on how to compost. With 50 dogs, that's a lot of pooh. It's good to put it to good use whenever possible. Thanks - looking forward to seeing more of your video's.
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA17 сағат бұрын
Hej! No, we don't use it in our compost. But the dog💩 has its own kind of compost where we also throw all treewool, leaves, etc. from the kenne,l so it all turns to dirt quite fast. I might mention that it grows Raspberries on the dog-poo-place bit I would never use to grow, for example, potatoes or "underground veggies" in it. But to use the dirt for filling out your lawn, etc, work perfectly./Stina

Very detailed instruction, thank you! I for myself use a special paper, designed for yachting and camping (WEPA liquify). In water, it decomposes in a few hours, in moist ground it takes more time, of course. I think, it is impregnated with cellulose eating bacteria, because you can see kind of bubbles. Of course, it is free of perfume and bleach, it has got he EU ecolabel.

Thanks! Interesting with the paper! Do you know if cellulose eating bacteria affect the ground/nature in any way? Or maybe it's better than normal paper anyway?

Thanks for braving this subject! Modern toilet paper actually takes years to decompose, so it is better to carry it out. As a woman for peeing I use a "pee-buddy" which allows me to pee standing up and without letting my pants down. Very comfortable, though it is a learning curve to do it properly.

The more remote your hiking, the less safe ultralight is. If you are very remote, you need sturdier gear, more repair gear, and more redundancy. If one is hiking the Appalachian Trail in the U.S., he is rarely far from other hikers, and usually within a few miles of a road or town. That hiker can cut corners and go ultralight. A person in remote Alaska or the Canadian Northern Wilderness would be risking catastrophe by going ultralight.

The reason for this behavior when becoming whet is that this fabric is PU-Coated on the inside. That also is the reason why it is heavier than high end tents which are made from silicone coated fabrics. Additionally there is this effect of pu-coating coming loose after sone time of usage - most people know this effect from the „flakes“ older backpacks show on their inside.

I've been using the soulo for years. Since my backpack weighs 20 kg anyway, it's not entirely clear to me what 1 kg less would do for me. For better ventilation you can lift the bottom edge of the outer tent with a stone etc. I don't have the money for several solo tents. So for me the soulo is the multitool that can do everything. and as I said, I don't feel 1kg more or less.

That guy is Way too close to that moose. With tiny little trees in between. Very dangerous! He's a wild animal. If there was a female around, he would have charged! I've had one charge me and we had a 10 foot fire going. He didn't care. He circled around us and we were behind big trees. Moose are huge animals. Getting that close is dangerous. Also, if you have bears around, no food in the tent, no cooking in the tent, unless you want a bear visit later. I camp a lot, this looks like a wonderful hike, but the wild animals are not being taken into consideration. In Grand Lake, Colorado, the Mayor got head butted by a moose and died.

Hi Matti and Stina! I have been following you for a little bit more than year now, discovered the channel when I got my husky puppy, I was looking for tips on how to go camping in the nature with a dog and things like that. Now my dog is 1y6m old and we just finished our first little tour in France. It was a five day trip from Alençon to Mt St Michel, in total we did 190km. I was cycling and my dog could either run besides the bike, pull the bike or rest in a trailer. I thought it would be an easy trip as we would do between 25 and 46 km a day (which is not much for a bycicle ride), but it turned out quite difficult because managing a dog is not that easy hahahaha. I was not ready for the mental load and ended up quite stressed out. I was always asking myself : Am I asking to much of her? Is she happy to be "forced" to run forward for so long? Is it to hot? Is she drinking enough? Is she to tired? In the end I was worrying so much about the dog that I was not taking much care of myself. I was not drinking, eating nor sleeping enough which made everything more difficult. I wanted to be as lightweight as possible so I did not bring anything nice for me. The only sweets I had were protein bars (not very tasty), I had nothing nice planed for breakfeast, not even salt or oil to pimp up my pasta. But my dog had toys, treats and bones to chew. Things she was not interested in as she was to tired from running all day. I was wondering, how do you know what your dog needs? Such as the fact that one of them needs to eat more or that the other had a back problem? I thinks this trip I did helped me appreciate your work even more. Thank you very much for sharing your sleeding adventures and your overall experience.
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA5 күн бұрын
Hello, and thanks for watching! I hope you find some useful tips and ideas sometimes. I would spontaneously say that the distance you made was quite a long distance for a dog. I would plan for shorter with a possibility to make d-tours if I have to much time... But sorry. That wasn't your question. :-) In lots of long-distance dogsled races this, what you made, is a very common mistake. Everything for the dogs and forgot about yourself. Also with preparation before the race. The dogs get top-quality dog food, and high-level training programs but the musher... junk food and coffee... :-) The dog needs good food and water. Then a nice place to sleep. I always keep my dog inside the tent during summer because of mosquitos. If you give so much activity you don't need toys. The dog also needs time off. Normally the dog is just happy to be with you. You need some extra gear... Booties for protection of the feet if they get soured or just for prevention. The temperature... We don't run our dogs if it's warmer than +15C. They can get overheated. I don't know if it's different with dogs living in the South. I have overheated one dog many years ago. It took him more than 2 years to recover... Stay tuned. This winter I made a video about how we take care of our dogs during a season, out on a trail. Maybe there are some useful tips in that video. ...and don't forget to bring a book for you and lot's of good food. Make food into a nice part of your outdoor life. :-) Take care! / Matti

Having just recently started looking at the Unna: For me it's the 5cm extra height compared to the Soulo, particularly for kayaking. Both Unna and Soulo have unnecessary features for this: Soulo is more sturdy than necessary with its many poles, Unna is too winter focused for a summer tent probably (but mesh inner makes it better). Niak is not fully freestanding, which I view as very desirable for such a tent.
