I thought I found lightning in a bottle when I found another channel doing incredibly detailed but simple tutorials for a few Elliott songs but this is great. A handful of resources will show the notes and chords but I love that you really display good right hand technique, especially after watching your few videos about that. I'd love if you'd consider posting more of at least playing some of his songs with your fretboard in frame or slowed down so you don't need to do a whole tutorial but at least gives a reference to learn from. I think just watching the other videos though makes me more confident in figuring out parts myself. Anyways good stuff!

I wonder if he sat around trying to perfect the way Elliott talks. No way he didn’t pick that up from Elliott.

probably but it's kind of endearing i rather dislike overenthusiastic/animated tutors

thanks a lot mate, i was just wondering what guitar strings u use to get that lovely warm sound or is it your guitar?
@brushstrokemedallion6 ай бұрын
put a balloon over the bridge and you’re good to go. it helps dampen some of the higher frequencies and clips the sustain a little. having a tiny parlor guitar will help too but this is my sister’s guitar and the strings probably haven’t changed since 2010 so i don’t know if that’s where the secret lies.

@@brushstrokemedallion a parlor guitar helps. i have one form the 40s and it just has that sound. not changing the strings helps too. someone gave me this guitar 10 years ago and i havent changed them and i doubt they ever did because they didnt even play guitar haha. these things could be decades old at this point. it was 3 dollar goodwill find!

This channel is a gem. What do you think of Stickman by elliott smith? All the covers I watch seem to have something missing or something not quite right. Is that just a quirk of the song?
@brushstrokemedallion3 жыл бұрын
i haven’t watched people’s covers of stickman on here but if they’re like a lot of the other elliott covers on youtube, chances are there’s some stuff missing. the right hand is obviously very idiosyncratic and difficult to replicate and the chord shapes in most songs are creative and made-up and tricky to figure out. but that’s what makes learning them so fun.
