I love that you do food prep with your Parang. I have a hand forged one from my old Jeep leaf springs that I use for all my camp cooking chores. Has enough rocker to be a good, albeit heavy, chef's knife. Everyone focuses on the "manly" chopping chores with these big blade reviews but they make great kitchen knives as well.

Hi, I'm an American living in the Philippines. Got the Duku Parang about 6 months ago from Condor and mailed here. I have used it extensively on bamboo making Bamboo spear guns and bow and arrows and it is awesome. With this Parang and my Mora I can pretty much conquer anything in the jungle. For real heavy chopping though I use the Ontario SP53 and SP8. I learned one thing here in the jungle, why chop when I can use a Silky Big Boy LOL!!! Right now it's summer, clear skies good time for hiking and camping right? Hell no! It's been 110 degrees pretty much daily. I sip my morning coffee on the porch with sweat dripping from my face at 8am. Hiking and camping can be down right dangerous right now.

+Donald Kennedy With a good saw like that Silky, a Mora and Mini Duku I'd say there isn't much you can't take care of. It chops amazingly well but does have a tendency to get stuck in the wood from time to time. Those Ontarios are really outstanding blades. That 5160 steel they use is tough stuff! 110°? Whew! I'm sweating just thinking about it! And it's snowing today!

Good to have both the duku is great for trail and grass clearing. Trailing clearing you just have to bounce the shape tip of the blade( first 3 inches) right at the crouch of the limb and done the almost cut clean through and drape and sag. No need with the duku and the mini duku for full swings. Full swings get ya cut ✂️

Hello Michael Travis, let me introduce myself I'm from Borneo Island part of Sarawak Malaysia country continent, The Parang you're using is for cutting midium tree, small area bush clearing. For the deep thick bushes our type of Parang longer than that we use to name type of parang (Dukuk Taking) parang panjang=Long Mechetes. That would be comfortable for clearing.

Thanks for the video, i already have the condor village prang, its blade is 1.8" longer so i will skip this one unless i get a cheap one secondhand, new the Condor Mini Duku Parang is £78.95/$123.17. The Bear Grylls Compact Parang with a 9.3" blade compares well with my condor village prang and is more budget friendly. Yes i know Bear Grylls gear try not to laugh to hard, it was a christmas gift from my mum and it has proved to be a decent bit of kit and can be had for £25/$39 in the UK. Take care and God Bless.

Hello, I wanted to know if based on your experience this Mini Duku parang is really a good blade. I am looking for a blade of generous size that is robust for every use (splitting wood, use to make its way in the vegetation, defense) in short all the tasks that a blade of generous dimensions should perform well, possibly also has a good portability so that the weight that is too high makes it difficult for the prolonged use or the transport of the blade on us. Obviously I would support it with a compact fixed blade like a bushcraft knife and a folding saw to complete the cutting set. Let me know your opinion on this blade, thanks Michele.
@MichaelTravis12c27
@MichaelTravis12c27 6 жыл бұрын
It is a fantastic blade and should do everything you ask of it. I really like this parang. You should also take a look at the Teräva Skrama Bush Knife as I think that would suit your needs as well.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the eco parang? I am deciding between the two. This one certainly looks prettier, but in this case I care more about function. Any pros/cons to each that you can think of? Is the eco lighter (condor doesn't list weight specs)? Is there really any substantial difference at all? Thanks.

+All the tea in China I actually own the Eco Parang but unfortunately, have not had them side by side. The Mini Duku is a heavier parang, a bit more suited to chopping. That said, while the Eco is lighter and a bit better for lighter, smaller vegetation, I'd chose the Mini Duku. I like everything about that parang. The Eco is highly capable though.

I’m looking for a backpacking knife for processing wood and batoning. I’m going back and forth between he Village Parang and the Mini Duku. It seems like the Village would be a better chopper since it’s heavier and better at Batoning since it’s thicker. With the weight difference, will it be that noticeable? Or save the weight and get the Mini Duku?
