I can tell you in the army gives you the following in the ifak: 1 chest seal 1 or 2 combat gauses (blood clotting gause) 1 Npa 2 cat tourniquets 1 Israeli bandage/compression bandage. 1 roll medical tape 1 sharpie 2 casualty feeder cards Bleeding out and sucking chest wounds are the top 2 preventable battlefield wounds that end lives. I like to add: 2 NCD (needle chest decompression) 1 or 2 Curelex to pack wounds 1 trauma shears Of course nothing outweighs your training and experience. You can do more with knowledge and makeshift items than you can with the right stuff without training.

Great video Chris. Your situation of someone freaking out in situations reminds me of my own experience. I spent time in Army, my daughter was 2 years old when she started choking. Her mom freaked out and was extremely mad when I walked over, picked her up and gave two quick whacks on her back while I had her some what inverted. Out popped the lifesaver candy and normalcy resumed. " How can you be so nonchalant when she is choking and dying?", is what I was screamed at by her mother. I said, "easily, staying calm, accessing the situation, knowing she was in no real danger while choking and alleviating the discomfort was all that needed to be done." AKA, act like a spaz and people die. Panic=Dead!

My dad has been a emt firefighter for 25 years so I grew up with a lot of medical knowledge. I got even more knowledgeable about medical stuff when me sister became a registered nurse practitioner. So I had them make me a medical kit. I not saying I know everything now they just gave me the tools an knowledge to help myself or people around me to stop or minimize further damage an give me more time to get to the proper help. Stay smart an stay safe.

Awesome information my friend, and a very useful emergency medical kit they are put together for sure. Unfortunately 90% of the time when we are out and about were not thinking of a worst-case scenario. And that's usually when something bad happens and we are caught off guard. So you are 100% correct my friend it is always best to be prepared so we can survive whatever comes our way. Thanks for sharing my friend.

I was thinking of something else when I said the HALO chest seals were expensive. They aren't. About $15. I tweaked mine today. Added the missing super glue and ammonia inhalants, safety pins, a clean rag (idea from the forum...if you are opening it you're probably bleeding), benedryl, insect sting relief pen, a Thrunite Ti4 penlight, topped off the honey bottle, and a better combat medical casualty guide. According to my hanging digital scale, it's 3.5lbs of awesome now.

This is the same kit I use for my BOB. I like this pouch a lot as I think it carries just the right amount of survival gear. Just a few things I would change. I bought about a 5" trauma shears that is black in color so that it is not reflective (obviously bad during SHTF bug outs), and I threaded it the MOLLE webbing on the front of the pouch for quick access. I also bought an enclosed MOLLE tourniquet cover for the same style tourniquet you have in your kit, and mounted that on the exterior of the pouch. A shears and tourniquet are two items you want to be able to access immediately. I would also add some anti-diarrhea medicine as that can also be fatal in the bush. I also like your idea of using honey and cayenne pepper. I am looking up medooka honey (spelling) for my kit. Thanks for an excellent review.

I have 8 of these that makeup 4 two part med-kits 1 'Ouch supplies' with the same Red Cross patch you have and 1 'Oh S**t' with a three bar caduceus patch' for blood, airway, sterile tool essentials. Good tip on the clotting powders, gonna have to replace all mine now before it comes time to need it. Having packed an re-packed them several times I thought that the rip-away feature was about the zipper handle but while I was fastening one on my Second Front molle webbing. I noticed the whole back plate was velcro so that if you grab the whole top instead of the zipper handle you can rip the pouch off the carrier. In case you didn't notice it either.

When working in the field, usually wooded areas and sometimes quite remote, in our natural resource consulting business, we always carry and keep reasonably handy large bottles of cayenne pepper in our field vests and packs. The cayenne pepper has another good use in addition to first aid: interfering with the smelling and trailing ability of dogs, whether they are nearby yard dogs that would bark and peak a neighbor's interest to approach and interrupt our business day, or nearby yard dogs that wander out and about, or packs of wild dogs. So, every once and a while we'll stop and toss a dose of it into the air or onto the ground.

I'm right thee with you ,my friend,,I have been ridiculed for carrying a mini field hospital,or that it would make an EMT faint,,but when something happens,who do you think they come to..yes,it's bulky,,yes it's extra weight,,,but when yu are 2-20 miles into the backcountry just may be the difference of someone being alive tomorrow.GOOD JOB ON AN IMPORTANT TOPIC !! MANY THUMBS UP!! Accidents DO happen,, sharp tools cut things,,(people too),, even a fishing hook in a body part needs proper first aid...Thank You...Stay Safe and God Bless...

Nice basic pack in use the same condor pack, packed to the brim. And having a good pack is not just something you need in the field. I recently had a relieve get their finger cought in a door so Bad the finger was half way cut off. Lucky for me I had my kit and quickly dressed the won and rushed them to the hospital. They told told me at the hospital if I had not wrapped the would amd stopped the bleeding so fast the chance of loosing the finger would have been high. So your right be prepared. I am a shooter and hunter and I never go to the range or hunting trips without a full blowout kit complete with 2 chest seals. For me it's a small price to pay. So far I have never needed them except to pull out a small bag with bandage achoal pads and burn cream which I stuffed in my blowout kit because burns and cuts are common shooting injuries.

Hey buddy, I've been following your channel for quite some time now. I like the way you present things. I have owned the Condor rip away EMT pouch for three years now. I'm in the Marine Corps infantry and it's been through some nasty stuff. In my experience, Corpsman are pretty hit or miss. Sometimes you get good ones, sometimes you get bad ones, so I was prompted to put together my own kit to take care of myself. This thing is built like a tank. I'm always very happy with Condor products. Good pricing, great quality. Keep the videos coming!

+PREPAREDMIND101 Just found my way back to this video and forgot to mention something about improvised chest seals - Yes, they CAN get the job done, BUT getting good adhesion is extremely difficult with tape. Lookup "Sucking Chest Wound: How to Treat an Open Pneumothorax Part 3" on KZbin, and you'll see what I'm talking about - This is in a controlled environment, where a chest tube has already been inserted so there's no risk to the patient, but you'll see what a hell of a time the surgeon has getting the tape to adhere. Dedicated chest seals can be had for under $20.00, and have a very agressive adhesive. Many of them come with a sterile gauze wipe in the packaging that is designed to sweep as much blood / sweat away before application.

Good video brother. Understand that there is not a kit that would fit all your needs. You have to consider your health needs If any and then the operational environment that you spend most of your time in. This usually helps in deciding what you need vs what you would like to have. Great points about the use of commercial equipment vs improvising. While knowing how to improvise is great; blood could get out of your body fast diminishing your skills and your abilities to do stuff we are capable under normal conditions. let me know when you want to get together for the video(s) and we will make it work.

@Dcook85
@Dcook85 8 жыл бұрын
I would make a small suggestion. Maybe a chest decompression needle and chest seal. Obviously yes this is a training requirement too. But they're great along with chest seals, if you lets say, fall on a knife and it penetrates your lung cavity causing a sucking chest wound. The seal stops air from going in, the needle lets air escape if pressure is building in the cavity after you seal the hole, preventing a deadly tension pneumothorax.

Great kit. I'm most surprised how much you can squeeze in that bag! I have similar equipment but I tossed it all in a small dry bag since those tactical bags have a bit of weight to them. How about sterile gloves? I always cringe when I see an ultralight backpacker's first aid kit which is a small plastic bag with some bandaids and a tiny tube of superglue.

Steven: There is a product put out by Johnson and Johnson called "Dermabond Advanced Topical Skin Adhesive". It is just Superglue. Just with a fancy name on it. It is intended to be used "topically" to bond cuts in place of stitches. (Not for extremely deep wounds. (Only for minor cuts that would require external stitches only). Frequently used along with stitches to seal the wound from germs.
@angryagain68
@angryagain68 5 жыл бұрын
@Steven Well, you do get to make that choice for yourself. But, I can assure you that it is FDA approved for that use. (It has to be to be marketed for that purpose). As to the point that "It would be more trouble than it is worth it's messy", that is totally wrong. It can be a trip saver if you are out in the sticks hunting or backpacking and have some sort of mishap. My daughter was a Med-tech in the Airforce and she gave me some single use ampules (not at all messy) of this to carry in my backpack first aid kit for just such an event. You can also use pine tree sap mixed with campfire ash for the same purpose (if you have both on hand). The traditional method that was used for at least a millennia. The ash is sterile and the pine sap is sticky and antibacterial. It just isn't as effective at bonding the wound closed and IS messy.

Something to consider to add to your kit is Quick Clot. You can get it at any big box store or Amazon. It stops serious bleeding right now and doesn't take up too much room. I keep Quick Clot in my range bag and first aid kit. Its a life saver.
@jerrycanne6981
@jerrycanne6981 9 жыл бұрын
***** He mentioned it. He suggested the sponges/gauze infused. Powder and a tampon would be good for puncture wounds with deeper bleeding with small openings. A sponge isnt going to do anything for that. One of the clotting brands has a powder applicator for punctures. If they have to wash the wound so be it, at least you'll be alive to need it done. Some people are moving to Celox instead since Quick Clot will heat up when it's working. Quick Clot can also be dangerous for caregivers in windy settings. You don't want it in your eyes. But yeah definite lifesavers and something anyone who plays with knives or guns needs to have on hand. QC/Celox and a CAT = life insurance.

the chest seals are worth the money because air can and will fill the chest cavity if the lungs are pierced this leads to needing to burp the seal or do a needle decomp. anyone can burp a dressing but you should never do a needle decomp unless you are medically trained.

Amen brother , exactly what I was just saying on another video. I'm checking with local hospitals or EMT centers for classes or what ever I can find for training. Ya just never know when an accident will happen , but if we do all we can do , to learn more than the common cuts , scrapes burns etc , the better prepared we will be. Thanks bro , by the way , does that Condor kit come loaded already ? Peace

a good thing to have in these bags is some kind of local anesthetic. before everybody tells me you cant buy them without being a doctor. You can, do ten minutes of research online and there you go. I like Xylocaine. I keep it in my bag along with the needles. Get training on how to use it and dosing so you have some idea on what to do. Some kind of Rx pain killers would be nice too. If you get hurt really bad otc shit isnt going to cut it.

PREPAREDMIND101 Hey Chris yes sure. This is a great kit but after viewing the contents I noticed a couple of minor things that could be added and changed. As Chris mentioned in the video, this isn't a team/EMT type kit so build on it to suite your own needs. The changes I recommend to this kit would be the following: With the Compressed Gauze, this can break down so I would swap that out for some Kerlix Antimicrobial bandage roll, awesome stuff that is pretty much self explanatory. A Small pack of No10 sterile scalpel blades, multitude of uses. Lip Balm, Vaseline in a tube ;) Medium and Large safety pins for dressing retention and also the larger one's can be used for pinning clothes for a makeshift sling for example. I would add a small tube of Neosporin for minor BooBoos and keep the honey for more major stuff, that truly is miracle juice lol. Burnshield Burn treatment, awesome stuff used within EMS with great success. I would also add a 25G Quikclot in there, the Cheyenne is great stuff but would be useless and maybe dangerous if an attempt was made to use it on an arterial bleed. Outstanding kit that with the addition of the few things listed above would be suited to most major bleed/Booboo situations. Also as Chris says' all the kit in the world cannot be substituted with kit, get some basic training and know your kits limitations. Great video as always Chris :D

That's not bad at all. I've only seen them in brick and mortar stores. In the Navy they taught us a bunch of ways to improvise a chest seal. When it comes right down to it, you can't prepare for EVERYTHING. That being said....this kit is mostly for blade accidents. If I was more focused on gun accidents, a chest seal would probably rate higher. It's one more thing currently on my wish list.

I love all your videos. I have watched several of them repeatedly... especially this one. I got the bag and am setting it up now - thanks for the info! I know you are not attempting to be condescending to women, but your comments did sound a little condescending. It strikes me funny, because my experience has been just the opposite... My father panicked at the drop of a hat - my mother immediately took charge, assessed the situation and did what was necessary. My sister would have died at 6 years old if my father was left to his own devices... my mother had to, literally, chase him down and rip my sister from his arms. This was instinctual to my mother, her only training was common sense and being a mom. OH, you might want to add a cpr shield.

I just wanted to tell you what happened to me recently. We had a strange dog in our house. It attacked our little chiawhawa. It was a pitbull. I was in my bedroom, all I heard was the loudest craziest screaming I've ever heard. I run out there and see my little dog in the jaws of a pitbull, my wife and girls are standing there screaming. My switch immediately turned on. I grabbed the pitbulls head so he wouldnt shake my dog to death. I ,in a direct voice called the dogs name and told her to let go, while managing to get my hands in the dogs mouth. The pit let go. My dog was badly hurt. My daughters bf kicked the pitbull out of the house. I looked over our little dog, assessed that he had punctures but wasnt bleeding out. Grabbed my oldest daughter...she wrapped him up tightly in a towel. Everybody started to calm down except my wife. She was histarical for 15+ mins. It is her little dog. I explained to her that she had to calm down so she could run him to the vet. It didnt work. My daughters bf drove them to the vet. The dog was stitched up and luckily no broken bones. Hes healing up nicely. I seen in my oldest daughter that she had the same ability that I did. The switch to go into emergency mode. Some people have it, some dont. I had a long talk with the wife about that situation. I dont think I will be able to rely on her in an emergency. The sag thing is, is that I'll probably be the one who suffers from her inability to act. If I drop from a heart attack whats she going to do? Its scarey. Thanks for your videos.

From time to time I see in the comments from "trained" persons under these med kit videos hinting or insinuating that persons who have not yet had sufficient training have no business building, buying or possessing med kits. Sure, people who intend to use these kits on themselves and others should get sufficient training. But that doesn't mean that they shouldn't posses such kits, even if they don't even plan to ever get such training. You never know when the kit will be needed by someone else who does have the training. Picture this, for example: I'm driving down the highway and have a wreck and am bleeding badly and my cell phone has landed in a place where I can't reach it. A passing motorist stops to render aid and calls 911. The motorist has no training and no med kit in his car. But his brother-in-law who is with him is an EMT. But of course because the brother-in-law is riding with someone else, he doesn't have his own kit with him. I'm bleeding badly and could bleed out without help. I tell the brother-in-law that I have a fresh EMT kit hanging behind me on my head rest. He grabs it, pulls the TQ off of the outside of it, and saves my life. Oh, and by the way, the reason the motorist had no kit in his car is because his snooty EMT brother-in-law had previously told him that he shouldn't be building, buying or possessing an EMT kit until he gets proper training, else he might be tempted to play EMT and hurt someone. Good thing I hadn't listened to that kind of talk, else I wouldn't have had the kit that was used to save my life. So, in real life I am in the process of building, buying and possessing multiple kits of varying contents to keep handy in various places, all while I get training bit by bit. And in the meantime, I keep a CAT 7 attached to my steering column in my car, folded just right and easily detached and ready to deploy by anyone who needs to deploy it on anyone who is in the process of bleeding out. Plus additional CAT 7s strategically placed in other places they might be needed in a moment's notice.
