@@SynthDad stopped resisting, Deluge just landed at East Midlands airport... In the end didn't feel too guilty. I'm going to sell the Cycles/Samples and the OP-1 and OP-Z. Never gelled with the OP-1, other than as a fun plaything (which has its place, obvs). The OP-Z is excellent, but also frustrating - I have to remind myself of how to use the thing every time I come back to it. And the Cycles/Samples exist in the same space as the Deluge. The EC4 + the Deluge will give me the immediate knob-twiddling capability that they offer whilst playing, along with all the other sweet sweet Deluge goodness. #manlogic

Great video but this doesn't work for me. Have the exact same setup as you demonstrate here but when I press play on Deluge, it hangs after a moment or two. On 3.1.4 Deluge firmware. Can't get the clock in to work on the NDLR via USB or MIDI. :\
@SynthDad2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, this suggests a MIDI loop somewhere. Who is the master MIDI clock and who is following?
@mechberg2 жыл бұрын
@@SynthDad I figured it out via MIDI actually. The issue (I think) was that I needed to turn “MIDI clock in” to OFF on the Deluge. After I did that, I could play on deluge and it would play as normal. I have not tried this via USB but it’s worth investigating later. Thank you for the rapid response!

Great explanation of a complicated topic. Awesome use of the mod matrix and LFO’s on the NDLR, that’s exactly how I imagined it being used. Thanks for taking the time to explain it so clearly! I was wondering when you control The NDLR with the Deluge you mentioned changing “key” when pressing the white-notes, did you mean changing the chord degree? I noticed the “key” was always C-Dorian.

Great tutorial, thanks. Did you by any chance used it with midi in/out without USB? I'm getting not recorded first notes or the first notes being super short. Im using only ndlr out to deluge in, starting play/record from the ndlr.
@SynthDad4 жыл бұрын
I think I've seen this problem before but going from Logic Pro -> Deluge. Given the way the MIDI notes and MIDI start/stop are being sent the Deluge can miss the first note on and so notes aren't recorded. It seems to be a quirk with the Deluge. Only way around it is to start the Deluge first, then play from the NDLR, and then delete the space at the start of the pattern on the Deluge.

I'm going to ask a dumb question but can the NDLR sequence the 4 tracks on the Deluge?? At one point it sounds like it's doing that but I thought the Deluge could only see 1 of the 4 NDLR tracks 🤔. I'd love to get the NDLR but I only have a Deluge and a Hydrasynth so I'm two synths short 😩
@SynthDad3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all - the NDLR appears as a 4 port USB device if you plug it into a PC, but the Deluge can only see the first USB port. But the NDLR can send 16 channels of MIDI over that single USB connection to sequence 4 tracks on the Deluge
@vertigev3 жыл бұрын
@@SynthDad Awesome! I actually ordered the NDLR so I will try that when it gets here. Thanks!
@mcoley843 жыл бұрын
What volt and amp adapter did you use? I've tried a 12V 1A and a 12V 2A, and can't seem to power the NDLR with either. Thanks Edit: I think I tracked my problem down to the wrong polarity. The Deluge manual says it requires center-negative power supplies, and all I appear to have are center-negative. Just for reference they suggest at least 500 mA for the deluge, and Conductive Labs says the NDLR pulls no more than about 100 mA.
@SynthDad3 жыл бұрын
Glad you figured it out - I blew a resistor on my Deluge sending it 16v centre positive by mistake! It will take anything between 9v and 12v as long as it is centre-negative, so any guitar pedal power supply should work. I use the Harley Benton ISO Pro2 from Thomann, though there are many others available.

This Noodler is also very interesting and fun, but I am not going to buy it otherwise I might end up with too many identical gear as you 😉. Actually, that is only a joke, but the real reason is that I am still not done with my wave sequences on the Wavestate, I recently discovered tons of interesting composition tricks for the Deluge,and then there is still this Midihub thing I might use, and I have a keystep 37 for generating strums, so in other words, I am way behind with digesting what I have......
@SynthDad4 жыл бұрын
That is a great set of gear to explore. Midihub is very powerful, and combined with the Deluge and Keystep I think it will give you everything the NDLR has and more. Wavestate also has huge depth (I still haven’t explored mine fully)

@@SynthDad USB ndlr to usb deluge, setup (visually on the three menus) 1:1 with your settings at the start of this video, though the firmwear is different! but when I press play the tempo wasn't picked up. Tried a factory reset but it didn't work. Then I shrugged and let the ndlr be the tempo brain and the deluge was able to sync, but the pads weren't able to be learned, while the 3 other parts were, though that could be an entirely different problem.

I don't understand how this works. If ndlr is set to send pad on midi 2, how is Deluge getting the midi signal on a synth track!

The midi track from the NDLR is ‘learned’ to the Deluge synth track which means it set to receive MIDI from an external device on that track
