Any more history on the KV-2 would be much appreciated! I love hearing about this behemoth and the standard internet search doesn't net me much information. You shared some photos of the KV-2 that I have never seen before, I wonder how long that KV-2 that made it to 1942 served until. Ironically the ISU-152 later served the intended role of the KV-2 during the push into Nazi Germany. The ISU-152 did really well in that role as well, the removal of the turret probably was a huge factor for it's success.

KV-2, loved by the designer, loved by the fans, hated by the crew, and fear by the enemy. thats pretty much describe KV-2 reputation
@Hellsong894 жыл бұрын
Dunno about feared by enemy, more of persistent annoyance with some potential gloomind death, since already overloaded transmission would be easily destroyed/immobilized by simply placing peace of log between the tracks, or it drives to AT mine and it would be immobilized just like that. Real problem was the KV-1's and infantry charges as Fins had pretty low equipment to deal the relative "mobile" and defended KV-1's, where KV-2 could not even fire when not in stable ground, so could be dealt later if just immobilized on the right spot so it cant even fire its main gun, though i give its hellawa pillbox and pain in the ass to move from where it was stopped. After infantry and more dangerous kv1's and T34 variants were dealt, bundle explosive could be tossed on its engine deck, or even better between turret and engine deck, what would blow the turret clean off. Also it has to be mentioned, willingness of soviet tank crews to abandon their vehicles when immobilized and charge failed was very much appreciated by fins, as Finnish tank battalion (yes as in one) was pretty much entirely made of captured soviet armor, with some Stuggs from Germany and pretty much anything that could be cobbled together, bought, borrowed or stolen... yeah not best, but bloody cheap and surprisingly effective considering enemy would never know what they will face next, nor whos side tank in their front was, except way the turret was pointing, so there was more than few friendly fire incidents on soviet side for what i have read about it.

The "Monster of Raseiniai" is one of my top favorite WW2 stories. It's one of those stories that just fascinates me to no end. A single tank holds an important road all by itself for a day is incredible, especially if the tank was a KV-2, which i am more inclined to believe as 6 bodies were recovered from the tank, which the KV-1 could not hold. Truly a significant story of patriotism, honor, and fighting spirit that should never be forgotten.

I agree with the second statement. It has all the qualities of a "Hitler Channel" program. Fluff, fluff, n more fluff. I expected to go to commercial and then have this dude repeat half of the dribble that he just presented. The "series" is titled "cursed by design," but does it mention the designers, a blueprint, or the manufacturing facility? The title mentions Stalin and bunker busting, but is there one photo of a bunker after a KV Big Turret has visited? No mention of how ironic it was that Stalin handicapped the crews with a "Top Secret" order, but, in the end, KV Big Turrets received custom paint in neighboring country's "Pimp my Ride" shops. You want to mention what "NEW", 70 year old evidence is? I bet Stalin ordered that KV to sit behind enemy lines to STOP Russian prisoners from being taken back to Germany, not to disrupt supply lines. Stories like that have holes in them because the truth cannot be told. If you were going to choose a video game to refer to tanking, why not "War Thunder's" version as opposed to "War Gaming's"??? You need new friends if the are struck with fear from pixels on a screen. Way to produce junk for the bottom 80%, but that's where the views are, right?

The main problem with it was that its sheer size made it very hard to move to the continent to do its job (a job that as you say wasn't needed in WW2). The American M6 had the same problem, which is why it never entered production. The army would rather have 2 M4s than a single M6 in the cargo hold of a transport ship, and they got them.

I am driving the KV-2 a lot in World of Tanks and this beast can be really devastating but his reload often kills you. The 152mm rounds are so heavy that you need 2 soldiers and after a shot you still need like 24 seconds before you can fire again. I don't know how many rounds that KV-2 ( 8:27 ) had in store, but they hav my respects for holding out so long. For the "Hero of Raseiniai - medal" you have to wipe out the entire enemy team (14 kill or more in 15 vs 15 standard-battle), which is a very good reference to what this russian crew did.

It is due not to brilliant design but rather due to acts of sheer heroism and courage to rise above the fear and hopelessness of their situation that the war was won. It brings tears to my eyes hearing about the stories of such heroes who were willing to put themselves on the line so that others didn’t have to. To go above and beyond the call of Duty. (This is a fancy way of me requesting a Hero Tank Edition)

Would the sherman fit for a cursed by design? you know the whole fire issues... Edit: my 1st comment made it sound like the crew would always die on a fire which is not the case

@@nathangerardhernandez9576 I did not say it sets itself on fire at all just that when it was hit afaik it lead to fuel leaking everywhere and catching fire, it did have hatches designed so the crew could leave fast in case of a fire but in one hit tank catching on fire still is a design issue no? also i believe this was only a issue on early sherman models

@@drakonna6281 I’m pretty sure the chieftain has a video about common tank misconceptions and myths and one of them is that the Sherman was a death trap because it always caught fire.
@drakonna62814 жыл бұрын
@@jk844100 I just saw the video you spoke of and its pretty informative thanks for the sugestion however i could be wrong but i think you misunderstood my comment, im not saying sherman is a insta fire machine that crisped the crew imediately, as the guy on the video points out it had very good hatches that made the crew escape very fast what i am refering is the fact that the fuel system would cause leaks inside the tank which then due to sparks from the round that caused the fuel system to fail or other causes (im not count ammo cook off since its said on video sherman ammo was slow to cook and if it did afaik it aways killed the crew of any tank since its a bunch of tank rounds exploding at about the same time) it would catch fire, the tanks that did catch fire more or less out of nowhere where the heavy german tanks due to their engines being worked past their limits In case my comment isnt clear what im saying is not that sherman is a death trap but due to early models of the fuel system the tank would catch fire and thats a sherman gone, most likely the crew would survive the fire since they can get out of it fast but the tank itself is gone
@Kyle-gw6qp4 жыл бұрын
@@jk844100 your missing the point. Yes the Sherman was easily escapable and very survivable but that doesn't mean it didn't catch fire easily.
