I thought I was entering an apt rental agreement with a landlord but it was actually a tenant who had permission to rent out the apt. I signed an agreement and gave a deposit to the tenant for an amount greater than the tenant is paying the landlord. If this is actually an assignment rental, does it void the agreement identifying the tenant as landlord? And, can I get my deposit back even though the agreement said no deposit return?

My question is I have a conversation with my landlord and he told me that first Pasadena years is been collecting the rent on the table like he's not paying any tax on it for anything the money that he kept no one knows about it so it's like under table cash and now he is sending me a letter that he wants increase my rent can he do that thank you

It gives the LL almost no rights just responsibilities. Thus the severe rental accommodation shortage. That simple.

You would be surprised how little LLs have to care about their tenants' rights unless that 0.1% of them go to LTB
