was swimming by the pier the other day. It was ridiculously clean.. September & October weather permitting the water is spectacular. best kept secret.

As a kid back in the 70s. I remember being on the Coney Island pier and a guy catching a spider crab. Drops it on the ground and stomps on it with his platform shoes.

I love the video but it confirmed my disappointment with Coney Island pier...there’s absolutely no big fish there, just the nibbling bait stealers. This video proves what I have thought all along, the fishing there is lousy.

@@kongsit1111 Thanks for showing this. I grew up about a mile from the pier you're filming this (Coney Island houses). When I was a kid, I was always curious what was on the sea floors of Coney Island. I was always curious how deep does it go. With the advancement of digital technology, I am learning the answer to these childhood questions. There are seals at near by Swingburne and Hoffman island. These are the two islands west of the Coney Island pier. I can't remember the name of the ecologist at Kingsborough, but she said seals were common to the area hundreds of years ago, but left due to human activity. They are coming back because of clean up efforts. Coney Island is really a beautiful place. I can see why it was a resort at the turn of last century.
