Come with me as I paddle along Coney Island Creek in Brooklyn NYC, cook lunch with a view, and take in the sights and sounds of the natural beauty of the city. Coney Island Creek is home to amazing wildlife, many burnt out ships and barges, and even a yellow submarine named the Quester I! I had to stop and explore the sub up close and see what it was all about. The Quester I was made from salvaged metal by a shipyard worker in Brooklyn, but failed to launch during its first attempt and has been stuck ever since.

Hey Matt! I have to give a huge shout-out to you!! Your Bronx River video woke something up inside of me and inspired me to get my own foldable kayak (I went with Tucktec) and get out there on my own. I watched a lot of different videos and did a lot of research to prepare myself. I've never kayaked before in my life nor did I ever have any interest until I saw your video. Basically I've been sitting home on my days off watching KZbin videos... cooking, van life, and recently I found your kayaking videos which led me to think to myself, why am I sitting here watching this when I could be living it instead??? So.... Matt, thank you! I visited Coney Island Creek yesterday and it was beautiful and awesome! I had so much fun! I'm embarrassed to post my video because I don't have the skills yet and it didn't come out like your videos, not even close. But I'm learning. Thanks again and I hope you post more videos soon. Today I'm thinking about checking out a creek in Staten Island I saw on go paddle.com

I was born in Brooklyn 80 years ago, left in 1976 and never heard of that Submarine. You have gone to places I never went to. Thank you for these videos in areas I knew of but never went to. It makes me nostalgic. I did visit my mom there until 2015. Isn’t it terrible how people have such disregard for other peoples property and the pollution they create. 👍👍😊❤️

Great video! I was raised within walking distance of the creek. A couple of suggestions; Some historical data would be interesting. Coney Island creek did at one point connect with Sheepshead bay thus making Coney Island an actual island. The creek was filled in along the route where the Belt parkway currently runs. Also, for those who reside outside the area, an overview of a map. or nautical chart that depicts your travel route would be helpful and interesting.

I'm originally from Carnise and stayed with my grandmother-Brighton 4th-the building that's up against the boardwalk-while attending SVA. I didn't realize the creek once ran to Sheepshead Bay. I Love NY/American history!...I also thought that it would be cool if he showed us his route.

Thanks for another great video.. It's a mini history lesson on things mostly forgotten to time. New York has a lot of forgotten history, but not to be surprised, as it was one of the original 13 colonies back in the day. I laughed to myself, as you are continually seeing so much debris in the water., but at least no E-Bikes to pull out of the water this time. Keep up with the cool videos in spirit of exploration. As always, love the videos and narration.. Well done 👍

Thank you for doing the Coney Island creek. I live in Coney Island and always wanted to see from the creek level. To bad you didn’t get past the D, N train tracks, there’s a big field to the left where a lot of birds and swans lay eggs. The creek ends at Shell road and really stinks over there at low tide. The end does have a lot of fish in it loaded with small fry and fluke.

That fence wasn't on the side of the subway bridge when I retired in 2015. I'm puzzled why it was put there. There are a bunch of old train radios in the water next to the bridges where the subway runs. I used to park in Coney Island Yard, and my day ended at Stillwell Avenue terminal. I used to walk the tracks across the creek and into the yard in the middle of the night. Certain times of the year there were things that looked like shrimp swimming near the surface in such great numbers that the water looked like it was boiling. I have seen nice sized blue fish in the creek as well, probably chasing baitfish. The creek used to smell awful down near where it ends, but some years ago they cleaned it out so it is not as bad. It was nice to watch your video. I left Brooklyn after living there for 60+ years. I miss salt water. I'm south of Niagara Falls now in a small town. The 'driver' of subway trains is called a motorman, or more recently a Train Operator. The Conductor is in the middle of the train, he opens and closes the train doors and makes announcements.

Can you kayak the river in Long Island City below the abandoned Montauk LIRR railroad line next? It’s incredibly peaceful and one of my favorite childhood places to visit.

Congrats on becoming a KZbin partner. Hopefully you hit it big. My suggestion is, “Kayaking across America”. There a French KZbinr, his name is Kino Yves, who is biking across Africa and he’s doing very well. Just an idea. Would take a couple of years probably.
