Ok I don’t see how Coney could mess up the Metroid Dread one that bad. There is literally no universe where Dread isn’t the best selling Metroid game of all time. For a comparison, Hollow Knight, a metroidvania developed by a small studio has already outsold the best Metroid, and it’s an indie title. How could a new Metroid game get released in this time and context and not sell extremely well? I know I have never played any Metroid games before, but I’ll be checking out Dread for sure. Honestly, if Samus Returns had been released on Switch, it would’ve been the best selling Metroid game for sure. Anyway, I still follow your opinions religiously, Coney, because I can’t formulate my own :)

Alright hear me out, the metroid dread being the most selling metroid might be a fact... First off as shown metroid never sold well and got "praised" by all those big hipster man (wich i'm a part of) for being so groundbreaking. Secondly, the indie scene has developed so much and a lot of those games are metroidvania. I feel like a lot of indie game fan will by the game and thus sell better than an NES game.

Not to be that guy, but Metroid Prime wasn’t a launch game for gamecube. It came out almost exactly a year later, which I actually think helped it in sales since the install base got exponentially larger in that first year. But either way, yes I agree that Dread probably won’t be the highest selling metroid game

There are going to be people who are unhappy regardless of the character. In my opinion Kazuya is the best and most deserved inclusion in the second DLC character pack. But there are also people who hate FGC’s that are absolutely angry as heck.

I'm kinda in the same boat WRT the Fighters Passes I volunteer my Switch at my local tournaments a bunch (because of the whole "college students running an on-campus weekly" sorta thing) and if the one setup without Byleth is the only one available for the one Byleth main it slows the whole thing down and everyone misses their buses home and has to shell out a fat stack for a post-Prop 22 Uber

I think Smash Bros Ultimate, and Nintendo as a whole is very overrated... Brawl puts Ultimate to shame, and has better music... Nintendo does nothing but repackage, and resell childhood nostalgia, and Smash Bros Ultimate snatches up characters, just for the sake of snatching them up... I've said it before, I'll say it again: Can't wait for fanboys to NOT SHUT UP, about whatever non-nintendo related character they're gonna snatch up next...

I looked it up after you brought up Metroid sales. Hollow Knight managed to sell 2.8 million times - and that was reported in 2019. In the the since it would not surprise me if it’s surpassed Metroid Prime since then. Which… well, like you said Mr. Coney man. I could see that spilling over into a lot of Dread sales, but not almost 3 million copies worth.

I agree on the whole point of Nintendo having very closed off fanbases within their own IP's, and how that can create an inflated sense of hype, but I think there's a point to be made about dead IP's and longstanding hype Going off your Advance Wars example (And I feel like Monkey Ball also fits this), it would definitely sell 200k copies in a straight vacuum of Advance Wars/Monkey Ball fans buying their respective games, but I feel like there's definitely a group of people that would buy the game just off the fact that they've never had the chance to. We kind of saw this last year as well with the Mario 3DAS and (if you want an instance that's far more akin to AW popularity), Xenoblade DE Now, I don't think Advance Wars is necessarily going to sell 1M copies or anything, but it's something that's worth thinking about

The idea that everyone who plays smash already bought both fighter passes comes from a "smash community" centered mindset. I personally have a friend who only bought Banjo and Hero from fighter pass 1 because they were the only characters that interested him from that pass. If you play the game extensively and attend smash events, of course you bought both passes and most likely the people you talk to about smash did as well. However, someone who isn't as invested in the community will be less likely to shell out the cash and will likely buy solo because it saves money.

I feel like CG trailers actually need to get the idea across though, Ixiom was a trailer that had me completely lost as to what it was trying to tell me. What's the plot? What's the genre? Is it single or multiplayer? Who am I even playing as or rooting for? I GOT NONE OF THOSE ANSWERS FROM THAT TRAILER! VtM: Swansong had the same issue, I don't trust devs who don't give me some gameplay or actual plot points in the trailer.

I actually hard agree with the E3 take. Having a big event every year is really fun and a big community amp but this year showed that publishers are going to put up a big show... whether they have something or not. I'd rather see showcases for a new catalogues of games from my favorite publisher when they're ready to do so. Granted this year is an outlier due to covid's influence on production. But even without covid my feelings remain. Another big deadline like E3 just means more half-measures to get something pushed out and, everyone's favorite thing to talk about rn in games, C-R-U-N-C-H for those trailers and ads baby. Not good. Don't need it. Just go live on your twitch/yt channel when you have something. I don't care when. I'll watch either way.

Any old Nintendo franchise that’d never had the chance to do well has a great opportunity to resinate with audiences now. Here’s pikmin for example, pikmin has constantly sold like shit and has been on Nintendo’s worst selling consoles. But olimar being in ultimate and pikmin 3 deluxe selling so well and more and more people are knowing who olimar is and experiencing pikmin Imagine if we got a chidi rodo game on the switch. That would basically sell itself. All we need is for Nintendo to promote it well and for enough people to find interest and I bet u it would sell above 500,000 copies

100% agree with what Coney says about games being ported to switch. Of course everyone wants them to run well, but for lots of people, playing the game is fun regardless. I have a pc, and I have some games on both PC and switch. Each of those games gets better fps and graphics on PC, but I still play on switch sometimes because I enjoy playing in bed, playing while travelling, etc. As long as it's playable and the frame drops aren't THAT bad, I hope that games keep getting ports.

l dont know how to feel about CGi-trailers,, best case is obviously if they'd show both a CGI-trailer and a gameplay-trailer, but if they can only do one or the other then l'd say that gameplay is more important. Knowing what the gameplay is like informs me on whether or not l might be interested,, just having a fancy world-building trailer is cool but it doesnt mean anything to me. lt might be different if it's a game in a franchise i'm already familiar with,, if they announce a new MarioKart game via a CGI-trailer then thats fine, it's mario kart. If they only release a CGI-trailer, they should at least tell us what genre it is imo, that way l can at least try to keep it on my radar l guess

If Nintendo didn't win E3, Microsoft did. Even being a fan of the former, I lean more towards Microsoft having edged things out in a more general sense (i.e. Microsoft probably had the best singular games that drew in massive numbers). Nintendo's strategy was to get a monumental amount of people, split that number up into groups and "fanbases", then give each of them 1-2 things they'd be excited over.

disagree on the DLC smash take. For me that's like $60 on characters idk/dc about most of the time. Its just wasteful to me to spend money on characters I'll only play once intentionally and occasionally through random. tbh doubly so when you dont know who's coming in the dlc pass. It's not even like there's a discount if you buy them in the pass. At the very least most ppl I know that play think similarly. This is a semi casual sample though so take that as you will.

For the framerate stuff, i can confirm that when i was a kid i didn´t give a shit about framerate, i finished starcraft 2 like 5 times in 10 fps and i love it, also i tried to emulate smash brawl and almost completed the subspace emissary in 15 fps, i couldn´t just because it was my cousin´s computer, so yeah, kids don´t give a shit about framerate
