I've read the first volume of the novel and that's the only one since it's the only one to he English-translated. I can say that the main differences in it is that... Novel Kumiko's thoughts are shown more in detail, she's like an open book (ha, get it?). And it's almost more personal, following her thoughts compared to the anime. There aren't as many Kumiko and Reina scenes, and Kumiko is as fixated on her as she is in the anime. Kumiko has more scenes with Shuuichi, who was demoted to an extra in the anime. Some notable differences I'd like to mention is that she isn't as dismissive as she was, and during the scene where she gets mad at him for him calling her ugly, Shuu actually gets to apologize, where as in the anime it's abruptly ended, and he doesn't get to add his two cents. Also, lastly, her feelings towards him in the novel are more obvious. Like an open book as I mentioned. Seriously Kyoto Animation, SERIOUSLY.

you know...there's a lot to see in this scene beyond that... i mean, it is actually really deep. Reina is doubting herself, she is under pressure and seeking for support. Kumiko, on the other side, is finally speaking for herself and not being indiferent. Besides, she kept her promise when she said "i'll tell them", because she was the first (and almost only) to clap for reina. Sometimes i feel the "yuribait" is just fanservice, because the scene could have been perfect without it.
