This BLOWS my mind. I grew up in NYC, and never thought I'd live to see a day where I'd see these guys, happily regaling home viewers with appearances in interviews that everyone can watch at will, 24/7. There were agents who spent literally their entire lives trying to get one of them to tell just tiny portions of these stories. Now it's entertainment. 🤯

It's sad how people think Sammy is "the man". You people understand that he killed a teenager, he sold drugs with his whole family, he took down John Gotti and 30 some odd other mobsters, yet he still seems to think he's in the mafia. Yes, I enjoy some of the stories but he's not someone to look up to. He would rat on anyone to get out've trouble, he's changed the narrative about flipping on John Gotti about 3 times. Is he a good story teller? Absolutely, is he a liar? Absolutely. They all are.

So the five families had approximately 4000 made members, but then if you factor in all the other families plus all the unsanctioned members attached to them….that’s a crazy amount of mobsters (at one point there was 22 families in total now I believe it’s more like 13)

To answer the question as to why the family names don’t always change accordingly with the new boss, the names of the five New York families that we know today we’re labeled as that by the government in 1963 when Joe Valachi testified. The five heads of the family at that time were Joe Colombo, Carlo Gambino, Joe Bonanno, Tommy Lucchese and Vito Genovese. This makes it less confusing for the FEDs.
