Still don't understand their logic with dislikes. Creators can see them anyway, makes no difference to them, but makes it difficult for a viewer to gauge how good the video is before investing a lot of time in it.

Yeah, I feel like that's just the safe response she wanted to share which is why the response doesn't make sense to a lot of people
@autonomy_2 жыл бұрын
The logic is that big corporations on KZbin typically get disliked often and they don’t like it. The reason is $$$. Until they release the data about all these “new creators” and how dislikes affect them, that’s the theory I’m sticking to.
@AlternateDargon2 жыл бұрын
mob mentality is also a thing. Sometimes people dislike because there are none, or are a lot. Instead of watching the content and forming their own opinion. The numbers still reflect the quality to the creator, and still influence the algorithm, but yes, it does take away from my ability to have a preconceived notion of quality. However if the video has 1m views and only 4k likes, im going to assume its disliked to shit anyway.
@acewmd.2 жыл бұрын
The real reason is since they put ads on all videos regardless of partnership. They can keep you watching after an initial click by hiding people's opinion of it from you since if you see massive dislike vs like ratios and leave, now you don't because you have no idea if its shit or not.
@ytctla2 жыл бұрын

What would be great (with respect to the statistics discussion around the 10 minute mark) would be if KZbin had an option for anlytics data to be user set widgets. They could have a default view of what they want to show, but allow the creator to change the presented tables/widgets so that you're effectively serving both people that want a given stat shown, and those that don't.

I think you’re missing the point Susan’s making about availability. There’s still an anxiety associated with “missing something” even if that thing is particularly useful, and it leads to KZbin being less understandable for some creators.
@copiryte95352 жыл бұрын
@@robonick3607 I do think this is definetly a valid point but people can normally personalise there youtube channel ludwig didn't mention it but they is an extension you can download which sort of brings back the dislike button there is always that option for the user to personalise there account. But because it's not built into youtube I would say this is less understandable for creators. A good example of this is minecraft everyone knows minecraft is minecraft but what makes it so universal is it's versatility people play they way they want to with different versions of the game whether modded or unmodded as well as snapshots to new ideas the the community can collaborate on. This way everyone is happy.
@bobsbobingtons47802 жыл бұрын
@@copiryte9535 I don't know if this makes sense, but I think it would be better if there was a good third party site with the option for users to see dislikes instead of having it on site. The thing is that If a creator needed to see it for more information on content, only those who really needed it would spend the time to get it, but if you don't need to put in any effort to seeing dislikes with a toggle, then that is what puts on the pressure to check the dislike ratio on a video...?

What do you do? Well probably the first one again, because you want attention. If YT throws that every time in your face you get stressed to do the videos you dont enjoy creating. That means YT feels like work and you are constantly trying to improve your sub and view count. Sure, you could say i dont give a fu**, but even subconsciously you will do more of the "feels like work" videos

Totally disagree about the "dislike" removal. It is FOR SURE more valuable to the majority, and therefore should not be overruled as "harmful to a few new creators". I would even argue they are more valuable to newer creators. It helps give a sense of what works and what doesn't. It also drastically saves time to the average viewer looking for visual aid in a project. Viewers have now forgotten that the dislike button has (at least some) value. They don't see a number next to it, and alternatively they DO see a number next to the "like" button, so they don't click "dislike" cause they don't know if it really has any merit. I'm sorry it's just dumb to remove it and severely jeapordize the average video learner and content creator.

Then she says "you've probably never heard from the creators that we've helped" - Yeah....no-one has because they don't exist or represent such a tiny amount compared to the vast majority of people that wanted dislikes to stay. 3. Then when asked why not let creators choose whether to turn them on or off she has no response. She says "There might be pressure to make a decision" - Yeah the person is making a video, believe it or not they probably have the mental fortitude to select "dislikes on" or "dislikes off". 4. Amazingly she doesn't mention all of the brands that benefitted massively because now they don't get bullied or embarrassed by having millions of dislikes on videos they produce that are terrible quality or insulting. The decision essentially boiled down to "we wanted to do it, stop saying you want them, we don't care, we know more than you, but we're totally doing this to help the little people....that we just couldn't manage to find because no big creators would publicly say forcing people to remove dislikes is in any way beneficial for anyone except big brands that give us a lot of money.

(just pontificating about life here, feel free to skip) Pretty much. Big companies in general have a ton of issues that have been around for a long, long time and nothing has been done to fix them for decades because that's not profitable. They essentially become machines that pursue unsustainable short-term profit and growth with little or no regard to anything else, which is further enforced by being literally required legally to do just that. And that's a huge problem because, while making money is an important part of it, companies serve another purpose. What I'd argue should be their true purpose, with making money only being the means to facilitate that and compensating the workers. In this case, the purpose of YT was clearly established when it was first created, "broadcast yourself". A place for individuals to make content and share it with the world. But as always, that gets overshadowed and pushed to the side by "max profit", and so the true purpose suffers for it. You can only push it so far before passing practical limits and everything breaks down. And I know, prioritizing that purpose and operating in a completely ethical way is an idealistic sentiment that will never happen while greed and selfishness exists in people. Even the most kind and caring person can be coerced into doing things they know are wrong. I'm not saying Susan is innocent in this, I don't like what's being done with YT, but she's not a moustache-twirling villain either.

That's what I would've like Ludwig to say. KZbin isn't only a social media platform like fb, twitter, tiktok etc. Those don't necessarily need a dislike button. KZbin however is also a search engine, it's a serious source of information for many topics. The dislike button was a very good control mechanism for that. Ludwig's videos don't really need a dislike button, tutorials for IT etc. desperately need one.

I really wish you would've asked about the notification system. It makes no sense that people who are subscribed with the notif bell on to not get notified of a video or get notified days later. the notification system of youtube has been screwed up for a long time. they shouldn't have taken away everyone's notification's and give them a complex way to turn them back on (which half the time doesn't even work), they should've just given the user an easy option to turn it off of they wanted to. i personally believe this has been a major issue for a long time. i get comments on every video of people telling me they never get notified of my content, and have the bell on and everything. if a user likes a channel enough to subscribe to them, they should be notified every time that creator uploads. not 30% of the time, or in some cases, never.

Agreed, I tend to get Notifs once in a blue moon and it has gotten so bad that I've just practically said "Fuck it." and I just ignore the Notifs now, which I rarely see anyway, multi-million dollar company loses to mobile games in terms of fucking Notifications lmfao, ludicrous.

My favorite part was 14:00. "We're growers." either Susan didn't catch it or didn't want to acknowledge it. She didn't even make a face. Also, Susan was VERY quick to get off the topic of QT getting demonetized and the reviewers being sexist.
