There are actually some really good yt shorts creators like American high, ladyyasmina, that couple who plays the weird board games, the almost friday podcast posts their sketches, duncanyounot, etc etc. it may be hard to find but there are plenty of good shorts out there

In long form content, you at least get to choose to invest your time in them. In shorts you can only go the next video. And the algorithm throws more and more trash at you the longer you watch. That's no accident. Researchers have found that it's way more addictive for the humans brain if the consumer only finds satisfying content occasionally. This way it actually feels like a reward to find a good video, because you had to 'work' to find it. Even if they didn't explicitly code that into the algorithm, it's only natural for an AI to adjust to that. They're actually treating us like monkeys and in return we start to behave like monkeys. People need to understand how bad this is. They're feeding everyone absolute garbage 90% of the time, willingfully accepting that this time is a complete utter waste to the consumer. Even drugs are more viable. At least they make you feel good while the trip lasts. The only joy in shorts is occasional mild entertainment for hours of our time.

I genuinely enjoy some YT shorts. But I agree, so much low effort crap. A lot of content stealing, and a lot of people making inauthentic or incomplete content because of how the shorts algorithm works.
