Confucianism was officially a legal religion in Indonesia during the reign of President Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur in 2000.
Indonesia is a democratic country and has various kinds of diversity. One of them is the diversity of religions or beliefs, namely recognizing 6 religions that have been legalized by the government. Religions that have been approved by the government in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia are: Islam, Protestant Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Islam is the majority religion in Indonesia, while Confucianism is the religion with the lowest percentage in Indonesia. Although it has existed in the archipelago for hundreds of years, official state recognition of the Confucian religion only came during the reign of President Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur in 2000. The number of adherents of the Confucian Religion in the country as per May 2022 has reached 71,999 people.
