i would have preferred another over than deciding it on boundaries. but all the players knew the rules when the superover started. new zeelanders shouldn't begrudge us the win. they were part of the most amazing world cup final there's ever likely to be and were denied by the narrowest possible margin. what it does mean is that new zeeland are going to be everone's 2nd team till they get their hands on the trophy. they always were mine, but now, i'll be rooting for them until they win it.

It's a cup not a league, there has to be a winner. You can debate how that winner is decided, but in a tight game one side will go home unhappy whatever. New Zealand were excellent and made the game what it was, the best in one day history. In future I'd go to a second super over because the odds of another drawn over are tiny, but the organisers and both teams knew the rules on the day. England won. Don't let the Brexit loser wins mentality infect sport as well.

My colleagues in the US were baffled by the way the WC winner was declared. They said you can have 5 day and 3 hr match formats. Why could'nt you use at least 10 more overs to decide the Champions. Though this game might have saved its future in England, this game and its unnecessarily complicated rules and confused umpires are not a good advertisement. ICC took more time to deliberate over Dhoni's gloves than the tournament rules. This does not bode well for a game trying to expand its footprint. For me personally, NZ won the heart.
