This is one of the few covers that you can tell that they love this song just as much as the fans who have listened to this song over the last 30 years.

When you have an all time favourite track it is something when another band steps on hallowed ground and does so without desecrating the memory... played with respect and soul... sitting nicely between the Joy Division and New Order version (Curtis and Sumner).

I never thought much of Radiohead until I heard this cover. It is simply awesome.
@aaronamnesia7911 жыл бұрын
obviously we all wish Ian would've been the only one to ever sing this, but he died and Bernard did a very respectable job with the vocals. Thom and the lads play it with so much energy here. love it. Great cover.

Eerie...one of several JD/NE tracks that helped pull me through my teens played by a band that made a huge impression on me during my twenties ( and still do to a lesser extent ). They really don-t make stuff like this anymore.

This cover was good enough and I'd say - big enough props to Radiohead for making it sound as close as possible--of course, there never will be another IAN CURTIS!! {Rest in Peace, sweet prince xo} @-->---

Never would have thought Radiohead would have the nerve. Good one! More a hommage than a version but well done. Even set up the video to look like they were rehearsing in Yorke's bedroom. Was waiting for his dad to knock on the door an tell 'em to keep it down. Have always liked the band (yeah, they are overrated but...), I respect 'em a biy more also.

If I had to come up with ten desert island discs New Order;s Ceremony would be one of the first tracks on the list. A cover version is always going to have its work cut out - for me New Order produced something close to musical perfection. The tears rolling down my cheek suggest Radiohead managed to hit all of the right notes! Many will disagree but this sits nicely between New Order and the Joy Division/Ian Curtis original (Still album).

Technically, this is a New Order song. Regardless it's wonderful and I am so grateful it's uploaded here.
@truemansparks10 жыл бұрын
Tanya technically it is a Joy division song written by Ian Curtis and the band as Joy division.
@lankybeans10 жыл бұрын
truemansparks Thanks, I admit I didn't know the full history of the song when I posted my comment. Yes, it was performed first by Joy Division - but most of the lyrics were lost when Ian died, and only one verse of the song was salvageable from the recording they had of playing it. It was recorded under New Order and New Order wrote most of the lyrics themselves. I guess it's kind of a gray-zone issue who's song it is... but I think "officially" it's considered a New Order song, but it is a really interesting history!
@lankybeans10 жыл бұрын
Sorry, meant that they had a recording of playing it live with Ian, and then did the official record recording without him.
@truemansparks10 жыл бұрын
***** True Bernard had to decipher the lyrics that Ian sang on that recording because they were not written down anywhere i truly believe Joy division were leaning in the direction of what new order would become anyway ,less dark but fantastic more synth based atmospheric music.x

@guestpectacular I feel as though it's appropriate either way. While Ian Curtis did write the song, he sort of offed himself before a proper recording was ever done. And New Order is the same band, but without Ian. It's not their fault he died. Either way, I think Ian would be proud of how his former bandmates are doing and how beautifully the song turned out. The band (and song) is amazing, regardless of if it's called Joy Division or New Order. The fact remains that they're brilliant musicians

This is why events unnerve me, They find it all, a different story, Notice whom for wheels are turning, Turn again and turn towards this time, All she ask's the strength to hold me, Then again the same old story, Word will travel, oh so quickly, Travel first and lean towards this time. Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown, Heaven knows, it's got to be this time, Watching her, these things she said, The times she cried, Too frail to wake this time. Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown, Heaven knows, it's got to be this time, Avenues all lined with trees, Picture me and then you start watching, Watching forever, forever, Watching love grow, forever, Letting me know, forever.

Tagging this as a New Order cover is not entirely false. There is no full recording of this song by Joy Division. The only way we fans get to hear this song in its entirety is thanks to New Order. Also, it's not like the band members are completely different, they did have a hand in writing the music. So although it is a Joy Division, it was first released by New Order so I don't mind either way.

Of course Radiohead do a good imitation, and are a great band - but I've always felt there's no point doing a cover unless you're going to do something different with it - and they don't. By contrast, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by Devo is the greatest cover ever in my opinion!

It's hard to hear them struggling with the song. It's obviously so difficult to get the right approach. I'm not looking for a carbon copy or anything. Just saw Moby cover this with Peter Hook here in Seattle tonight. Was so much more. Can't explain it. Gonna stop trying. The song exists and we are better because of it.
