Thanks for the tutorial. I believe it would be tremendously helpful to describe the sounds for the beginners to make it a little easy for them to practice.

I think it was Eddie “Bongo “ Brown on that track with Marvin Gay. It looked like him.

Wow thats a great lesson! William, could you please make a lesson how to tune congas, cos' all tutorials on how to tune doesn't cover all the aspecs(for examle how to make drum skin to sound more ''dry'' and clear sound instead of ''vobbling '' soud . It would be great to hear from you how you tune them 😀

Hello Andrew! Thank you! That is a great idea. I will work on a tuning video.

I had a question ? i was wondering if it was okay to learn conga and to go for this instrument even if we don't like cubain music? like salsa and those type of music? i'm more funk and reggae and soul . but salsa i don't like .
@WilliamJohnsonmusic5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Firstly, thank you for commenting. Secondly, I am sorry to hear you don’t like salsa Hahahaha I am biased. Thirdly and ultimately of course it is ok to learn the instrument... even if you don’t favor Cuban music. It is a testament and compliment to the beauty and versatility of this instrument that you would be drawn to use it even outside of its traditional context. Music is fluid and often defies borders. Congas have a great and long tradition/history in reggae and funk. I have used congas in many genres such as country, bluegrass, hip-hop, gospel, etc. go for it!

@@WilliamJohnsonmusic Thank you very much for your answer , and its not that i dislike salsa , but it doesn't move me , so much.Compare to those other styles of music.And i was wondering if it was other congas player in the same situation of me or if all of them had to go throw cubain music to be a good player.Thank you very much for your answer and i hope that you re gonna do more soul and funk tutorial , its very good .. Maxwell and sade have very good conga grooves in their songs. Thank you very much

Late here but wanted you're opinion to my theory that congas were first mixed into soul music by Marvin Gaye.

Can i play Rossana - Toto with this pattern?
@WilliamJohnsonmusic5 жыл бұрын
Hello! I’m sure you can. Sorry for the late response. Try it and record yourself with a camera playing along to the song and see if you like how it sounds. It is a different rhythm then what is happening in Rosanna but that doesn’t mean it won’t work. As long as you are not forcing it and you and the rest of the band likes it then go for it. On another note I will be doing a video on Rosanna soon. Hopefully Next week!
