The logical thing is : ninety percent of the people who travel to Manhattan to work use public transportation, then those ninety percent are the ones who should pay for that tax to improve a service that suits them and not ten percent remaining percent that do not use the train service.

65% of newyorkers oppose this tax. Call for a referendum and this money scheme for the MTA will be gone for good.

In New York City, the implementation of congestion pricing has been a topic of debate. While it was set to begin in June 2024, the plan has been postponed indefinitely3. This decision came amidst concerns over the economic impact the tolling program might have on everyday New Yorkers4. It appears that more than 60 percent of New York City’s inhabitants opposed congestion pricing based on polls, reflecting public discontent with the idea5. The reliance on referendums or public opinion polls is a common practice in many cities to gauge support for congestion pricing. This democratic approach ensures that the views of the residents are considered in the decision-making process, especially for policies that directly affect their daily lives and expenses. However, the success of such initiatives can vary greatly depending on the local context, public awareness, and the perceived benefits versus the costs of the program.

Here are questions which I do not see the media address regarding congestion pricing: a) would the gridlock predicted to be relieved in Manhattan simply transfer to the boroughs thereby negating the environmental benefits? b) How can one trust the MTA to spend the extra revenue coming in wisely when it is known to overinflate some simple subway track extensions, has had incredible delays completing projects such as East Side Access and extending the Q? Furthermore as one who has experienced train service interruptions for the sack of "signal upgrades" and station improvements, the results seem negligible or just simply maintaining the status quo, who would oversee and have power to reign in the MTA to actually do viable, valuable projects in a timely manner?
