Imagine the economy of NYC if they turned over the housing projects to working people. Instead of welfare recipients. Unfortunately the city caters to the rich and the poor. I can easily find $20-25 parking in the city. When you have to pay $30 for a RT LIRR ticket, before congestion pricing it's almost even money even if you factor in the price of gas. For somebody that doesn't have to be in the office 5x a week (where a Monthly LIRR ticket would be overkill), driving in wasn't that bad.

Here's a free piece of advice to decision makers: use buses to get people from residential areas to stations, and then they don't have to park! And since there's an expanded bus ridership market to connect with the train, you can increase service and have buses run more often!

Commuters need to start mass "carpooling", as they did when gas prices rose in the '70's! As many as 4,5 or even six persons could travel into NYC in one vehicle & could share their parking & fees & severely cutting the MTA's "congestion pricing" revenues! Also, homeowners, who live near train stations, could gain income by renting out parking spaces to commuters!

Long Island is about 120 miles long. The rates vary depending on where in Long Island you come from; also, commuters typically get monthly passes. The most expensive being $468 per month. I'm not sure it would be cheaper to pay the $9 because you also pay a toll to enter Manhattan from Long Island/Queens, unless routing very much out of the way for one of the "free" bridges. A lot of businesses cover parking or at least subsidizes for their employees, but that varies as well.
@TechJolt3d

The subway is 2.90 now and going to be 3 later. 3.25 is for single ride tickets i'm pretty sure, but you can just use a metrocard/omny card/credit card/phone with nfc. You are not parking in manhattan as a regular commuter for free, you are probably getting some sort of parking. You also have to add in added maintenance cost to your vehicle, and account for the time you lose in traffic. If you think the 9 dollars is worth, then pay it and you'll have less traffic for yourself. Its an incentive like a sin tax is.

Just like the state to enact crazy laws and not be prepared for the fallout. Bigger, more efficient parking structures should've been built before enacting congestion pricing.

people still needed to pay parking in the city, which is more expensive. the only thing they are savings are on the toll, gas, parking (surely cheaper there than in the city), wear and tear. So the train ticket seems to be far cheaper.

Take buses, along with free loop rides to park and ride lots. Cover the lots in solar panels for car protection and future cash flows from charging. Elevated commuter rail makes a lot sense, as well. Think strategically in networks and highly sustainable spur lines. Needless to say, supermarkets, or post office pick-up spaces would also be money makers as well, if co-located.

How about you do what every other sane first-world place does and build mixed-use residential/commercial in the space you used for the GIANT PARKING LOT RIGHT NEXT TO THE FREAKING STATION?

Question for people ditching their car for a train to avoid $9 car fee. How much are the train tickets round trip? Do you need to take a bus or subways to get to your destination when you normally don't? Two one way crimeway rides cost $6 so it is worth saving the $3?

@zienatasilviestu4698
@zienatasilviestu4698 5 күн бұрын
Well it seems more people are taking the train instead of contributing to congestion into the zone and that’s a good thing. Car drivers will pay for so much for the car and related costs but then whine about having to pay their fair share for the effect that cars have on congestion (if anything the congestion pricing should be higher). Things don’t just happen in a bubble, bring out more buses to accommodate people to stations, it’s a connected system of cause and effect.

Sick of all these incompetent drivers .They can't drive or park and a lot of them honk their horns up and down our streets at all hours. Sick and tired of them all. If they can afford cars, they can afford the 9 dollars.
