Congrats, Leafs! (2021)

I felt that this series was over when the Leafs went up three games to one on the Canadiens. I overestimated how much Toronto could take an easily manageable situation and fail miserably at it. Even in an all-Canadian division, memes still live on.

The Leafs are living proof of two concepts: 1) Regular season hockey and playoff hockey are two different sports. Being good at one doesn’t mean you’ll be good at the other. The Leafs are built for regular season hockey, not playoff hockey, and it shows every time they collapse in the first round. 2) Hockey is a game played by humans not computers. Building a team using statistics and mathematical models as if you were programming a hockey video game doesn’t work. The Leafs are a cup-winning team on paper but not in practice. Campbell didn't even play bad either, same way Andersen actually played statistically solid last year against Columbus. It's the team in front of them that chokes every single time. The stars never show up and the players who do aren't given a chance to log minutes and push the young guns to try harder and get tougher. Keefe has shown his inability to lead after refusing to change things up and give guys like Brooks, Liljegren, Robertson and even SDA a chance to push something into the lineup. Sandin got shafted hard too after 1 bad game and has been so mishandled this year by Keefe and Dubas. Both of them honestly need to go.
