Why did I have this gnawing feeling that the Ravens were going to do this? Why couldn't I have jumped on the hype train like everyone else? They were dominating elite teams to end the season. Lamar was playing the best football of his career. The running attack was crushing everything in his path!
So why did everything revert back to 2019 against the Chiefs? Why did you prove the lingering doubt I had right? Fuck.

Though if the ball on that one drive crossed the goal line, it could’ve gone into overtime. The worst part about it all is that the Chiefs didn't score a single point in the 2nd half. @@jim2lane Monken called a good game overall; a couple head-scratchers but there always are in the NFL. All game long Baltimore had guys open for 5-6 yard gains in the flat, and all game long Lamar Jackson ignored them in favor of throwing bombs. Lamar gets frustrated when things don't go his way during games and defaults to low percentage deep balls. He has for his entire NFL career. A couple of times that worked out and the Ravens came back to win. More often we wound up with losses like yesterday. This was their shot, they blew it. They choked. They picked now to have the worst game of the season. They wasted that 2nd half defensive performance. While the supposed cracks had been showing all season, really the Texans game was the real harbinger of things to come. Everyone thought the first half of the Texans game was just rust from being off for a couple weeks, in reality it was a clinic on how to stop this current version of Lamar. Lamar is sensitive to outside criticism more than anyone wants to admit, and the constant claims that he's not a premier QB put this notion in his head that he has to be hitting high yardage downfield passes constantly to put those criticisms to rest. The Texans played deep zone and soft man to man while blitzing him over 50% of the time, and the result was a paltry 10 points in a half, only three points more than the chiefs gave up. I had some hope thanks to the second half against the Texans where Monken clearly wrangled him back to just taking the open man but that was easier when the game was tied coming into the second half. This time they were down 10 points already, which was hardly insurmountable especially with how staunch the defense tightened down in the second half, but clearly a fuse broke in Monken and Lamar's mind that they had to throw on every down which played RIGHT into KC's hands. And even in spite of all that, if it wasn't for the twin towers or retardation that was ZAY FLOWERS TAUNTING WHEN WE'RE 10 POINTS DOWN AND THEN FUMBLING IN THE END ZONE this game goes to overtime where anything could happen. The bigger problem is the fanbase has been split for a while and this is how each side will react. The Lamar haters will just use this as fuel to once again talk about "playoff Lamar". They'll point to the 2-4 record, how he's only beaten Ryan Tannehill and C.J. Stroud and can't beat Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, or Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. They might even start comparing him to Dak Prescott (though that seems unreasonably cruel). The Lamar fanboys will ignore every mistake Lamar made and blame the coordinators, the head coach, and probably the concession stand people for this debacle, anything to avoid slandering their sacred cow lest they be deemed racist, even though his main opponent was a mixed race QB who's been beloved by the league for years now. The sad truth is they're both right, the play calling and offensive gameplan was horrendous but Lamar's inability to deal with the blitz will haunt him his whole career until he develops the humility to just hit hot routes and RB's out of the backfield to defeat it.

2:02 The perfect summation of the entire game for the Ravens: Baltimore is driving the ball, already within field goal range, 2nd & 10, and Justice Hill is open in the left flat for a small gain with the opportunity to go the distance if he can beat one defender. Nelson Agholor has position for a 4 yard gain to Jackson's right. Lamar decides to throw a jump ball toward Isaiah Likely at the goal line, surrounded by three defenders. Kansas City kept getting into 3rd & shorts because Patrick Mahomes was okay with taking the short completion & moving on to the next play. Baltimore kept getting into 3rd & longs because Lamar wasn't.

When we've drafted WR's in the first round in 2021 and 2023? We're likely (heh, pun intended) going to be running a lot of 2 TE sets next year so there's only going to be two WR slots, and with Bateman, Flower, and likely Agholor (OBJ will be a cap casualty). Drafting o-line, particularly guards will be the play in the first round, we'll be picking too low to get a tackle (and Moses and Stanley played well down the stretch).

I love Lamar Jackson and often compare him to my favorite quarterback, Josh Allen. He doesn't quite have Allen's sheer physical power, but he and Allen are alike in quite a few ways. They are both speedy, elusive men who can, if need be, simply become the offense. They can punish you through the air too, though again Lamar can't do this quite as intimidatingly as Allen can. And they both have a knack for turning the ball over in the dumbest possible ways.

Sure, his “taking away greatness” speech may be his biggest blunder/joker moment thus far, but he and his team learned from it and fine tuned their offense and clock management for the better during the playoffs. I also felt that this “congrats ravens” video is less mocking and a lot more lamenting for tree’s standard.

The Chiefs even advertised to the world what their game plan was for us ahead of time, all of the sportscasters shared it before the game, and yet we still just walked right into it. There were no adjustments to the constant blitzes like last week, no rolling Lamar out of the pocket to throw, no called QB runs, no quick drop timing patterns to compensate for the blitz - NONE OF THAT. Just Lamar sitting in the pocket allowing the Chiefs to pin their ears back and pressure him every single play. Did Todd Monken have a mini-stroke yesterday? Their loss...and this game frankly should have been 24-7 at halftime had the Chiefs not made a few mental mistakes. Oh well, a win is a win is a win!!!!!

considering what happened in the other championship game where a team went up 24-7, i feel like this is actually better. at least the ravens never had a lead

I was fortunate to be saved from watching this game by a prior commitment. I was not so lucky with the NFC game, it's like both the Ravens and Lions had their Gatorade switched with stupid juice. The difference is that it took until half time for it to happen to the Lions.

I bet there was a lot of tension between the Raven's offense and Defense in that locker room after the game. The Raven's defense held KC to no points for the 2nd half.

As a ravens fan. This one was 100% spot on and this loss is gonna sting for a long time. Could be worse, could have no superbowls at all I suppose

You're right, it could be worse. You could be a Chargers fan like me with zero Lombardi's. Count yourselves lucky you have 2 Lombardi's.

I love the congrats videos. They reinforce why I love the playoffs in sports. This is where story lines are made. The congrats videos explain them perfectly. It feels even better when they come out against a team that i hate. Lol, congrats on your division championship against Jake Browning, Mitch Trubisky, and Joe Flacco, Baltimore. Truly a season to remember. Bye bye 👋

Ravens were generally favorited, but I always said: “Chiefs know how to maintain their composure, and Baltimore knows how to choke.”

As a Ravens fan, I am greatly disappointed at this game. I thought after leaving Washington, I thought I was going to escape losing, but it seems like I can't escape it because it still finds me every time. This makes me so sad. I actually believed this was the Ravens year, even despite my little amount of doubt in the back of my head. Now I know how Cowboys fans feel every year. No matter what team I seem to be with, whether it was the Washington Redskins or the Baltimore Ravens, I am always experiencing losing. I never see anyone I like hoist the Lombardi Trophy and have seen nothing but losing throughout the 21st century. I've accepted it now, but it seems like losing will always be a part of me. What a dang shame.

I defend Lamar SO MUCH. But that pick into triple coverage when he clearly had a check down wide open all I could do was throw up my hands.

This was 5 times worse than 2019's divisional round failure. This was a chokejob of the highest order. They didn't lose because of the refs or because they couldn't stop Kelce. They lost because they gifted the Chiefs unbelievably stupid penalties and not one, but TWO end zone turnovers.

yeah, neither qb should be considered a bust. baker was drafted by cleveland (enough said) and lamar is being held back by john harbaugh, both are quality starters otherwise

This game reminded me a lot of Denver vs. Panthers in SB 50 - a great D keeps a normally explosive, dual threat QB trapped in the pocket all game long & their offense just never gets started as a result.
