I think people were upset mostly because it was supposed to be called "Conkers Live and Uncut" then when it released all the profanity was censored, which upset our then child minds thinking we were shafted. But ultimately like you said, its the better game, the graphics are top notch for a Xbox game, just looking at Kameo which came out for the 360, the graphical quality is similar. Its sad to see they didnt include it in Rare Replay

It still think it's a darn shame the Xbox port wasn't included in the Rare Replay Collection. No matter what you prefer, it would have been nice to have it all in one package as not many people got to play both versions. Plus, the original Xbox game can't be played online anymore if I'm not mistaken, so it would also have given people the ability to try it out once more.

I would have to say that the humour is very British so although some just see crudeness and potty humour. It is far more complex and nods to British culture and British comedy. The XBOX game was just not as good, still sexy though. I understand that some will not get the humour but for those who do its very special. As for the changes between the two versions its very subtle. There were small changes in art like conkers glass not being a milk glass in the remake which made less like Clockwork Orange then the original. Plus the beeping was worse I thought in the Xbox version.

Hey man YOU are WRONG in this: In the Xbox version, Conkers can actually do 3 hit combos (that about just "wack and repeat" is bad information dude) , from, weak , medium, and Hard strikes. The trick is you dont need to press the trigger fast as possible like in an average platformer, you need to timing to activate the 3 hit combos. Is hard to explain that timing, but once you learn it whit practice, is easy to pull off.

I've played both and they're both good, but the N64 version possessed all of the charm. It was SO over the top which is what made it awesome, especially seeing it on a Nintendo console. Good episode. This actually looks pretty good compared to the N64 one and is the one I'd probably prefer to play. As far as Grabbed By the Ghoulies, it wasn't one many talked about when it was new, but it definitely has that Rare touch and is worth playing.

One important thing that speaks for the N64 version are the better animations and face-expression of the characters. And the game totally bases on it's humor, for wich i love the game. One of the most unique games ever!

Conker Live and Reloaded might be one of the few remaining Original Xbox exclusives I still want to get, after trying out the demo of it through Forza 1, and the original is still a game I enjoy. Though Kameo was relatively solid from what I remember, but its been some time since I've played it.

I think people also gravitated towards Conker's N64 multiplayer more, but the Xbox one wasn't bad. I think both versions do good things on their own right. Also, I still Kameo is great when you get to that, but I'd probably do Perfect Dark Zero just to... so to say.... get it over with.

Too bad I couldn't try it, because I do remember enjoying the N64 multiplayer fairly well. Heh, know what's funny? I already got Perfect Dark Zero... got it the other week for $11 shipped, brand-new sealed "Limited Collector's Edition" in a steelbook. I just think that's hilarious, as old as it is. I still need to get Kameo, and I'm definitely playing it first.

I played the XBox multiplayer in its heyday and it's serviceable for a third person shooter multiplayer mode, like say Ratchet 3. The N64 modes were more original and creative, I'd give it that, but I thought both versions did well. I played the Xbox version more if only for not owning an N64 back then. I used to work at Gamestop so we got a used copy of the PDZ steelbook edition for $2 and that was more than enough for me (though I did spend $60 bucks on the game on day one, but then traded it in, knowing I'd buy it again when it is cheaper). Kameo, if we talk on the same day releases, was FAR superior (I reviewed it myself on my channel, albeit very old video) and I like it a lot. It has flaws, but to me it's the last game that really has a strong "RARE" vibe to it without jeopardizing the quality.

There is a trick to the combat with the baseball bat. Press RT 3 times in a row, in a moderate speed and you kill them instantly with a combo. Only the 3rd hit must touch the enemy, otherwise they will throw out the spikes at you. So start the combo on your way up to an enemy.

I still can't believe it wasn't ported to Xbox One, it's like they don't want our money... I was hoping for an HD treatment of Live and Reloaded, similar to how Rare Replay's Grabbed By the Ghoulies was treated. It's more annoying when you realize they chose to keep Jetpack and Viva Pinata 1. Rare Replay included both Jetpack Refueled, and Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, which are arguably better than Jetpack and Viva Pinata. If I recall, Jetpack Refueled already had the first Jetpack built into the game, which mean Rare included Jetpack twice in Rare Replay! Viva Pinata Trouble In Paradise had pretty much everything from the original Viva Pinata, and included even more. Trouble in Paradise had all the same Pinatas, characters, items, food, plants, enemies, and even the romancing videos, yet Microsoft thought it would be a smart idea to include the original, despite being very obsolete when compared to Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise! Both Conkers may have the same story, but they both have very different experiences compared to Viva Pinata 1 and 2, and I would have rather they excluded Viva Pinata 1, or Jetpack (or it's awful sequels for that matter... Same with the Sabreman games) in exchange for Conker Live and Reloaded.

If they made this Xbox remake uncensored, have all multiplayer stuff from the Bad Fur Day and put a little bit more effort into it like making the animation the quality to games like Jak & Daxter and make it less obvious that the image in the tunnels to go to different areas are JPEGs then it would blown the OG out of the water.

thank you for taking the time to say that the xbox version is not that much of a difference and that people over exaggerate for censored curse words. it's literally "curse words vs. better graphics and control". A shame you couldn't try the multiplayer, its where the gun play really shined. Also I'm not sure if you knew but.. you can do a 3 hit combo with the melee weapon that usually kills those enemys with the 3rd strike, instead of doing that 1 at a time tedious swing.

I wonder if Rare could/would resurrect the G-rated Conker in Twelve Tales. I think the success of the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter campaign by former Rare staff proves the need for quality titles for the whole family and that people are ready for collect-a-thons again. I don't know if any code or design material is still around at Rare (though most of the people are gone) so it may have to be completely from scratch.

I tend to agree with your assessment of the Xbox version being the better overall version. It sucks that it's more censored, but a lot of times you can tell what the bleeped word would be. There was a novelty and something funny about hearing those words on a Nintendo console. It detracts from things, but the vastly improved visuals and controls offset that imo. Conker may not hold up great if you are looking at is as if it were made today, but if you put it in it's context I think it's still fairly funny (I found some of the non-reference humor to be a bit funny but to each their own). I also thought the multiplayer with bots was alright, kind of sucks you can't do split screen but I found it more playable than the N64 multiplayer.

I will always prefer the n64 version over the xbox remake. When the game released Conker and his parodies were fresh and new. Plus like you said, the idea of a kid-friendly looking game with raunchy themes was novel at the time. But SP aside, the multiplayer in the N64 version just flattens the one on the Xbox. Hell, a big reason I despise L&R is because of it's shift to Halo-like class based combat. Even in 2005, everyone and their mothers were trying to cash out on that style of play. And you can tell MP was a bigger priority for the game as well, being the first thing you see in the intro cinematic as the game loads. I spent 100's of hours on both games in 2001 & 2005. And while I have fond memories of both, today I just feel more attached to the n64 version over the Xbox one. Maybe if Live & Uncut's vision of Multi-Player had happened with a sequel in it's Single-Player, things might've been different. Also, I do harbor a minor grudge against Microsoft; they had the perfect platform for Conker to become something big and without the limitation Nintendo's family-friendly policy enforced, and yet they ended up enforcing more and shunning the game's marketing almost as hard as Nintendo did.

"Halo-like class based combat" Something what Halo is not... a class based shooter :D Halo was like most older shooter a game where you pickup guns and a couple powerups on the map. Conker got more a Battlefield like System (which was more unique back than). Only sucks that L&R got those "beeps out" and it would be fun to have some of the old Multiplayer mods else its an excellent Remake and the best looking game on the Xbox.

Halo was vastly different than older shooters and is noted as being the pioneer of things like: - 2 weapon limit - Regenerating health I'm not saying Halo is bad, to each their own, but it was a radical change than what the N64 offered, which many had stated was fine the way it was. MS tried to turn a fun and accessible multiplayer into some "competitive" and modern multiplayer in a raunchy game about anthropomorphic squirrels, weasels & panthers.

There's also a stigma between the graphics. While the N64 version looked a lot like a cartoon, the Xbox version looked a bit too realistic and a bit weird to some fans of the series. I get how some people have a problem with it, because of how Conker was to imitate some aspects of cartoons. Besides, the fur is really distracting.

you can play it on a 360 too but it have some small trouble detecting controller sometime. and you need to install an official emulator for each xbox games on 360 like the xbox one does for 360 games... the thing is,the one is closer hardware side to the first xbox than the 360 so it should be backward compatible,but sadly it is not...

I could never get into Conker. Just felt like it was relying on crude humour to get by. It'll be interesting to see what you think of Sabre Wulf on the GBA. Worth playing the original Spectrum game to compare just how different they are. Rare's pre-Nintendo games are quite the treasures.

I always did mean to get Sabre Wulf on GBA back then, but I never did... part of me wanted to get Rare's GBA games, and part of me still felt wounded by the Nintendo split, silly as that may sound.

I found Conker: Live & Reloaded for $3 at a thrift store last year. I never played the original N64 game so I didn't have any nostalgia for it. I don't know why, but the game never really clicked with me. I thought the humor was childish and the gameplay felt lackluster; like it was missing some polish.

I treasure this game. Sure, it's crude and immature, but this is balanced out by the obvious hard work put into it by a bunch of talented artists. And yes, I think the Xbox version is the superior version (I own both) save for the addition of those damned goblin enemies that were barely in the N64 original. They were clearly added to pad out the game and add more combat. Oh, and I much prefer the frying pan over the baseball bat. Fun fact! The music in the remake are all live recordings, unlike the synthesized music of the N64 original! However the music that plays in the battle with the hay boss has a slightly slower tempo than the original. Why? Rare couldn't find anyone who could play the banjo THAT fast!

I will say the n64 version is better not because of less censorship but the tone you see the n64 has bright colors so see if bright colored cartoon characters looks like a kids game when it isn't while live and reloaded goes for a more muted and darker shades of color and more realistic and less cartoony look so it looks like a more mature game!

I don't think people think the N64 version is better because of the single player. Live and reloaded does that all better. I think where people like the N64 version better is the Multiplayer. Live and reloaded got turned into a kinda battlefront 1/2 type multiplayer where as the N64 had many different fun modes to pick from and play with your friends. I really had fun with live and reloaded's multiplayer, but I often remember the times with friends playing the bank robbing multiplayer, or the raptor vs cavemen, or the one where you play as teddys shooting immigrant squirrels before they make it to the border. Lucky for owners of the Xbox one you can get rare replay which has the N64 version unchanged.

Conker: Live and Reloaded isn't actually as impressive as it could've been. Aside from a few characters like Conker himself, most characters don't have very-detailed eye movements. That could easily be done on the PS2!

[Try4ce] Sadly it was never released on Genesis and it's in English. It's Ganbare Goemon 2 for Super Famicom (the previous game did release in English). It's an amazing platformer and doesn't require much reading to play through so it's a friendly import.

I honestly don't think the *beeps were censorship but intentional for comedy's sake. I found a lot more funny to hear the sloppy beeps than the actual words, especially when some of the beeps are obviously poorly timed so you kinda still hear most of the word. I think it's funny this way but people are too busy getting angry of censorship to realise it wasn't. Comedy is relative and sometimes those swearing came across phony and cheap on the original and the beep gave a charm to it. It's like Brutal Legend in which there was an option to put beeps on swearing words and even the game says it's funnier.

I bought the game for $50 about 10 months prior, and that was actually as good of a deal as I could've hoped for at the time. It's sort of weird, because you don't usually see many retro games that go up and down in price like that.

Actually I thought of an idea that either of you two could potentially do, but how about a look at the games that are either Published or developed by Rockstar games on Nintendo systems, as they seem far and random like Rockstar Table Tennis for the Wii, or GTA for the GBA.

Actually you can do combo with melee weapon. You dont need to hit and back everytime.

I would think that if the game was famous for its swear words, to take them out of the remake version they are only hurting themselves. It is like a boobie anime being screwed over because of the boobies being censored for TV release in Japan. So I personally think that the censorship from Microsoft was a stupid idea and even with the gameplay being more refined, it is ruined because people wanted to play Conker for the wonderful swear words that you would never find in a cute platformer game. It was genius for its time in 2001 and to take that away, all you have is a really empty game with its life being stolen away from it regardless of the improvements there were in the 2005 remake.

The muiltiplayer is what makes me like the n64 version more. It's wasn't as fun on live and reloaded.

I agree that the Xbox version has the superior single player. It is a bit annoying that more words are somehow censored in the Xbox one still, mainly because it's confusing. I mean.. why? Why was the N64 allowed more swear words?? The N64 does however have far superior multiplayer, which feels weird to say because they clearly tried harder on the Xbox one. But I think that's what broke it; it felt like a generic online shooter of the time. That isn't what Conker multiplayer is, that isn't what it is at all. The N64's multiplayer was a fantastic thing played at many parties. People, including myself, loved the little minigames like trying to avoid teddy snipers, etc. I probably played N64 multiplayer more than the single player of both versions of the game combined.

I can see where you're going, but the reason why people love the original N64 is because of its charm was retained. Sure the cursing was toned down on the Xbox, but it was the original that people remember the most.

I find Conker Remake somewhat bad performance very strange, the graphics are a little better than Star Fox Adventures, unless they used MSAA, this would explain why It doesn't run as good as SFA.

This should be a law that they should not price some N64 games like Conker's BFD like $80.00 or more, it's an old game for Christ's sake, it should be like $10.00 or less.

That's probably why he doesn't get why everyone prefers the N64 version- it has a multiplayer actually worth going back to, which was scrapped in favour of xbox's class based clusterwreck garbage. And let's not forget the xbox version was advertised as 'uncut' and had to be title changed because not only was it censored, but had sections cut out entirely and made easier for no real reason. Finally, the redesign lost the charm of the original, and lost impact too. He mentions the original tediz were funnier to blow away- well the original naive looking squirrels getting massacred on the beach had way more impact than the grizzled buzz-cut versions in the remake. Also who decided to remove the double machine guns!? The Matrix lobby level is an utter joke without them.

The main reason I liked conker was for the awesome multiplayer which was completely different and way better on the n64, that's the reason I don't like the remake. I would recommend playing the n64 version with 4 players it'll probably become one of your favorite games.
