Thanks for sharing this Video. Keep watching it almost everyday since last week. It makes me cry too. She is very beautiful and charismatic. I wish i was in that time when women dress like real women and talk like real women.

It was GREAT to grow up back then. I would not trade my teenage years in the 50's and early 60's for anything even though I am now an oldie myself. Love the music of that era. She is a real cutie and her clothes are just what I wore my freshman year in college.

Most of you commenters have TOTALLY missed the point. This was a teen and pre-teen TV show in the 60's in South Florida. Rick Shaw was the host, and he was - and is -a legend. To be chosen to lip-sync a song on his show was the coolest thing that could happen. Made you a celebrity at your school! No one was trying to steal music or pretend they were the original artist. It was just pure fun before the days of karaoke. And Rick Shaw was absolutely the furthest thing from being creepy - he was the nicest guy in South Florida, never a hint of impropriety.

Nice try Heidi St. louis, It's a sick world we live in now. I grew up in Lauderdale and these were the best of times for us. You may know, Rick, passed away, breaks my heart, he was for sure a great man. I feel bad for kids today who have to live with petty small minds.

Patty was great - people made a big deal -how many people copied elvis, beatles and other artists - its what happens in the music industry -- its a compliment to the artist
@caroles98236 жыл бұрын
Thank you Heidi. I was one of those lucky enough to do lip syncs for Rick's morning show and he was the best of the best - a good guy to the end. He even showed one of my lip syncs to the artist (Lulu) and she thought it was great fun. I'm glad we grew up in a more innocent time.

The dress style with the white collar she is wearing was popular around 1965. I remember seeing both Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark wearing a similar dress around the same time.

I can't believe I'm watching this! I went to Thomas Jefferson. Patty was one of my classmates. Sweet girl! She and Nilda Rice (one of the dancers in Conky's Lou Christie videos), did a lot of great lipsyncs to the old Petula Clark and Sandy Posey songs as well. Rick Shaw (the show host in this video, also a beloved local DJ), actually bloopered once on his radio show, introducing the latest song by Petula as being by Patty. LOL U.W.

It sounds like her name is Pat BenTON, not Pat BenSON. I have watched this numerous times and that's the way it sounds. She was a regular on "The Rick Shaw Show", a popular local morning TV show in Miami. I believe this was her first appearance. She made an art out of lip-synching, particularly Petula Clark songs. I always thought her last name was Benson but now I'm not sure. Patty, if you're out there and read this, set the record straight for us. Love these old Miami television posts!

From Songfacts: ...Contrary to legend, the harmonica player was not Rod Stewart but Pete Hogman of The Pete Hogman Blues Band and Hoggie & The Sharpetones. Hogman told us: "The backing for 'My Boy Lollypop' was recorded live in the studio. I played harmonica and Ernest Ranglin played a black Gibson. Several people have claimed to have played the harmonica break but I can promise you it was me, and it was all recorded in London. CJ.........

Well, I'm glad to know. I ALWAYS thought it was Benson, but in this one particular early clip it sounds like Benton. Look, I'm getting older by the day, so my ears are going (as everything else). Does anyone know where she is today? I can't believe WLBW Channel 10 kept these tapes and did not erase them. If you have access to more, BRING THEM ON! I love old, local Miami television. That's where I lived for forty-five years.

Millie Small is a black jamaican. "My Boy Lollipop" was one of the first and only ska crossover hits in the States. The Brits were hip enough to pick up on it. Us Yanks, not so much. Our loss. This is hilarious.
@RollOnToVictory10 жыл бұрын
Ska? really? Trust me, there's a lot I envy the Brits over, but ska?
@MrRJDB196910 жыл бұрын
Barbie Gaye, who is both white and American, recorded this song in 1956, long before Millie Small covered it. Seems us "Yanks" didn't lose much, did we. Do some research.
@Papadragonification7 жыл бұрын
but this is the millie version being played while that little girl lip syncs
@v8valiant685 жыл бұрын
Millie small, her version went to number 2 in the states, Barbie gaye, who originally sung the original song didn't do so well, infact Millie's version sounds similar to Barbies, only difference is Millie kicked ass with her version.
